All 3 were friends, pre Pink Floyd.
Syd, with Roger Waters, formed Pink Floyd initially, and was the creative force behind Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
Piper IS Syd.
Piper was cutting edge in 1967, but Syd was struggling with mental health.
He left/was booted after this album, being replaced by David Gilmour, and wrote a couple of solo albums.
In these it's easy to identify the similarities to Piper.
Gilmour assisted, interestingly, on these solos.
David Gilmour is responsible for the sound that became Pink Floyd. His guitar work is prevalent on them all.
Roger Waters, following Piper, became more and more the dominant force in the song writing.
Dark Side of The Moon was the album that catapulted Pink Floyd in 1973. Waters wrote all the lyrics, and much of the music.
As I said at the beginning, a case could be made for all.
My personal opinion is that, choosing 1, the dominant force is Roger Waters.
That, and that Winston is the leader of the circle jerks, with Sava acting as his right hand man.
