Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

20 hours a week. I went for months spending that much time with each of the Civ titles in the past. I think I used the game to escape from the anxiety caused by the fear of failure of trying to succeed in some new activity that would actually be productive.

What sorts of activities? Like picking up chicks. Imagine if you devoted 20 hours/week to just approaching chicks instead of 20 hours/week playing Civ. You would be a straight-up pimp in no time. But it's not limited to that. Taking courses to further my education. Practising a musical instrument. Volunteer work. These are all things that were more worthy of my time than CivX.

I came to this realization earlier this year, finally. I dont really play computer games anymore. I'm more focused on self-actualization now. I'm curious about Civ4, but I wont be buying it. I'd like to be able to play for 2-3 hours a week, but I know that if I buy it I'd be right back to 20+ hours / week..

Television is an even worse "opiate of the masses" than Civ is.

self actualization

sounds like one of those things you hear at those business seminars.

Some people like me still couldn't get a woman if they spent 20 hours a week talking to them. I'm a hopeless case.

Vegas is the floozy capital of the world. All kinds of drunk women in the casinos and the bars. I refuse to believe that anyone who lives there cannot get laid unless they have a hump on their back and they climb bell towers..

Brundlefly, don't act like an ignoramous. It also takes money, drive to do it, and maybe even SOCIAL SKILLS to "pick up" women.
Anywhere. Vegas is not that exceptional.

As long as civ keeps changing over the years so it doesn't get old, it is MUCH more cost-effective for hours of enjoyment than sex-addiction.
Actual LOVING relationships would be probably be another matter, of course.

Yep. A one on one, hour for hour swap with TV actually feels like a better use of time. And since it cuts into nothing else I have planned, it is also guilt free living.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Possibly my health - i'm already suffering neck and back problems from too many 50-60 hour weeks in front of a PC at work and add another 20-30 to play CIV and i guess its time to renew my regular booking at the physio.
