	Ads Ads Ads!!! Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Seeing that all the other threads about this are closed, I have to start yet another one.

Here's a screenshot of what ads I got after browsing Apolyton for just a short while:



After making this screenshot I closed all the ads. I then uploaded the screenie here on Apolyton and proceeded to make this thread. During this short time five new ads have popped up. Edit: Make that seven after posting this thread. Edit2: And ten after editing the message. I hope you get the idea.

With this particular advertising agency, we have specified that you should get a maximum of one pop-under ad every 12 hours based on a cookie placed on your machine. Clearly, this is not happening for one reason or another. Do you have cookies enabled in your copy of Internet Explorer (it looks like you're using version 6.x)? Based on your wording, I take it that you were logged into your forum account when most if not all of these ads appeared?

May I also suggest, as been implied by a couple of posters before me here, that you consider switching away from IE. I recommend the latest version of either Firefox, Navigator or Opera. I am actively using the first two myself where the first is my default browser. At least give it a shot.

If you would prefer to stick with IE afterwards, by all means -- but again, check your cookie settings.

What advantage does Firefox have over Internet Explorer regarding ads?

Anyway, as far as I can tell it doesn't have anything to do with IE. On my laptop I don't have those ad problems. However now you say the following I think I know the problem:

On the desktop where this is happening Lavasoft Ad-Aware is blocking a tracking cookie constantly. I assume the ad flood would disappear if this tracking cookie is allowed?

I switched to FireFox some time ago, and was amazed at the decrease of popups. And as long as you're carefull with what plugins you allow to install even ads within a proper browser window will only show the red x.

They do happen now and then (on 'Poly I mean), and some days more then others but I suppose that has more to do with the sort of contracts between Apolyton and the advertizer then my configuration.

I get an ad from this people a seldom time, always in Norwegian. I have had this on two computers, the last time on the laptop I'm sitting on now, which is about a week old, so spyware etc. is unlikely.
