Gloria lyrics by Patti Smith (and Van Morrison and Leon René)
Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine
Meltin’ in a pot of thieves
Wild card up my sleeve
Thick heart of stone
My sins my own
They belong to me, me
People say ’beware!’
But I don’t care
The words are just
Rules and regulations to me, me
I-i walk in a room, you know I look so proud
I’m movin’ in this here atmosphere, well, anything’s allowed
And I go to this here party and I just get bored
Until I look out the window, see a sweet young thing
Humpin’ on the parking meter, leanin’ on the parking meter
Oh, she looks so good, oh, she looks so fine
And I got this crazy feeling and then I’m gonna ah-ah make her mine
Ooh I’ll put my spell on her
Here she comes
Walkin’ down the street
Here she comes
Comin’ through my door
Here she comes
Crawlin’ up my stair
Here she comes
Waltzin’ through the hall
In a pretty red dress
And oh, she looks so good, oh, she looks so fine
And I got this crazy feeling that I’m gonna ah-ah make her mine
And then I hear this knockin’ on my door
Hear this knockin’ on my door
And I look up into the big tower clock
And say, ’oh my God here’s midnight!’
And my baby is walkin’ through the door
Leanin’ on my couch she whispers to me and I take the big plunge
And oh, she was so good and oh, she was so fine
And I’m gonna tell the world that I just ah-ah made her mine
And I said darling, tell me your name, she told me her name
She whispered to me, she told me her name
And her name is, and her name is, and her name is, and her name is g-l-o-r-i-a
G-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria
G-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria
I was at the stadium
There were twenty thousand girls called their names out to me
Marie and ruth but to tell you the truth
I didn’t hear them I didn’t see
I let my eyes rise to the big tower clock
And I heard those bells chimin’ in my heart
Going ding dong ding dong ding dong ding dong.
Ding dong ding dong ding dong ding dong
Counting the time, then you came to my room
And you whispered to me and we took the big plunge
And oh. you were so good, oh, you were so fine
And I gotta tell the world that I make her mine make her mine
Make her mine make her mine make her mine make her mine
G-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria,
G-l-o-r-i-a gloria
And the tower bells chime, ’ding dong’ they chime
They’re singing, ’jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine.’
Gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a,
Gloria g-l-o-r-i-a, g-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria
G-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria,
G-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria,
G-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria g-l-o-r-i-a gloria.

Friday night we'll be drinkin Maneshevitz
Goin out to terrorize goyim
Stompin shagitz, screwin shicksas
As long as we're home by Saturday mornin
Cause hey we're the brews
Sportin anti swastika tattoos
Oi Oi we're the boys
Orthodox, hasidic, OG Ois
Orthopedic Dr Martens good for
Waffle making, kickin through the shin
Reputation, gained through intimidation
Pacifism no longer tradition
Cause hey
We're the brews
Sportin anti swastika tattoos
Oi Oi we're the brews
The fairfax ghetto boys skinhead hebrews
We got the might, psycho meshuganas
We can't lose a fight,
As we are the chosen ones
Chutzpah driven, we battle then we feast
We celebrate, we'll separate our milkplates
From our meat
Oi Oi hey we're the brews
sportin anti swastika tattoos
Oi Oi we're the boys
Orthodox, hasidic, OG Ois
C'mon you schmucks
One more time for Hershel!

I just wrote the dumbest song.
It's gonna be a sing along.
All our friends will clap and sing.
Our enemies will laugh and be pointing.
It won't bother me,
what the thoughtless are thinking.
I am more concerned
with what we're drinking.
They'll laugh about it at the warehouse,
saying I'm so lame.
It wrote itself,
you can keep the blame.
It'll be a happy song,
not unlike some other ones.
While everyone's depressed and broke,
I get high off your sick jokes. (Ha, ha, ha.)
They're colossal.
They're tousling
all the worried hair.
Stay up there.
So crazy it just might work.
Then we'll quit our jobs.
We could be
the next group that you rob.
There are times for being dumb.
This must be one of them.
I'd like to know what's so wrong,
with a stupid happy song?
It says many things
in its nothingness.
It gives me space to think, I guess.
To think less. And less. And less. And less.
Moving units and tracking charts.
Will they ever learn?
It isn't who you know,
it's who you burn.
It means nothing. Selling kids to other kids.
If you think we changed our tune, I hope we did.

Jackie is a punk judy is a runt
They both went down to berlin, joined the ice capades
And oh, I don’t know why oh, I don’t know why
Perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah
Perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah
Second verse, same as the first jackie is a punk judy is a runt
They both went down to berlin, joined the ice capades
And oh, I don’t know why oh, I don’t know why
Perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah
Perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah
Third verse, different from the first jackie is a punk judy is a runt
They both went down to frisco, joined the sla
And oh, I don’t know why oh, I don’t know why
Perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah
Perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah perhaps they’ll die, oh yeah

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain!
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain.
Oklahoma,
Ev'ry night my honey lamb and I
Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk
Makin' lazy circles in the sky.
We know we belong to the land
And the land we belong to is grand!
And when we say
Yeeow! Ayipioeeay!
We're only sayin'
You're doin' fine,
Oklahoma!
Oklahoma O.K.
Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain.

Ev'ry night my honey lamb and I
Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk
