They say it will be with me 30 September. Seems quick, anyone else seeing pre-orders with delivery with this timescale?

That date's wrong. As it is now, there seems like the game will come before Christmas, which probably means late November.

Put an end to popups!

Here is a bit of the email.

Dispatch estimate for these items: 28 Sep 2005
Delivery estimate: 30 Sep 2005 - 4 Oct 2005 1 "Civilization IV (PC)"
Video Game; £30.62 (approx. EUR 45,15)

Quite odd, they must be making a big mistake... or the release date is sooner than anyone knows???

My bet is on Amazon being rubbish, but I'll be very happy to be proved wrong.

Doubtfully. All internet shops tend to just make a wild guess that they move forward and backwards until there comes a real date.

Just saw that Tom's hardware have s quoted September 2005 release date.

Mad. Tom's aren't that reliable in general for tech stuff. We'll see.

I am OFFICIALLY EXCITED however.

nah, they come here to see what I think should be in the game and then they go do it, then they come back here to see what else I want to be in CIV. Because my opinion is the most important to them, obviously.

I have the programmers home residences wire tapped. Getting in the Firaxis building seemed a little too difficult with security and all.

From what I gater from conversations amongst themselves with the other programmers. Mid Novembers seems to be accurate.

I certainly hope it's at least somewhere in the vicinity of 40. From what I gather, he's the one that can do the most to help the game at this point with the AI tweaks

I'm sure that number is well above 40. It's crunch time and from what I understand about the industry is that you can expect 50-60 hour weeks and 70-80 hours aren't out of the question either.

No connection with Amazon, I've been a chieftan since 2001, lurking... I will be upset with Amazon if (or more probably, when) they push back the release date.

However, in the very remote chance this date is correct I will be very content indeed.

Obviously Tom's is not a reliable source, it's simply interesting that they support the amazon comment; probably got it from there themselves.

What do you think the minimum required time is before final release when they will confirm the release date? A month?

September 30 is ridicilous by any means. That's only a month away. That means that the game has to go gold, that is, be finished, two weeks from now. Given that there's basically no official civ4 site, no massive advertising campaign yet, and no word whatsoever about civ4 being close to finishing, I find the notion that it can be done within two weeks ridicilous.

Besides, all those September, October and November dates provided by retailers are being pulled out of their rearsides. The official Civ4 site by Firaxis says "winter 2005", and that is the ONLY official word there has been on the release.

It's actually slightly worse, Amazon say 28th September not 30th...

Looks increasingly likely that Amazon are simply lying. I will send a very nasty email to them in the case of a November release, a full month after that which is quoted.

I wonder if the publisher's get upset with this misinformation? Probably not as they just get more cash themselves.

In any case will update when there is a change in the quoted date from Amazon, or when the game arrives whichever is the sooner.

In every recent(ish) interview Firaxis has done, they've said November.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

Delaying a game isn't neccessarily a bad thing. An extra month of polishing work can make all the difference in the world.

I'd rather get Civ4 in late December or even in January 2006 than get a game that clearly needed more work before it's released. Too many publishers press their release dates, and as a result, too many games are released that are lacking only a few weeks of work - which is then delivered in a patch.
