Some of the Planning, in the MoI department, has us getting ready for a Palace move, while planning a possible war (and REXing like bunnies). Some city placements, proposed by Krill, lead to that option.
Granted, I 'm not adverse to a Palace move, I've helped plan and implement a few of them myself. But I'm not quite certain that we know enough to make these plans now, especially in light of recent events and discussions.
But should we be doing this now?
Shouldn't we know more about what terrain is around us first?
Should we know more about our geopolitical enviroment before making them?
Can we possibly hamper our Core, for a possibility that might not happen for quite some time? Would this impact War plans and future growth??
Do we even want to move the Palace?
The team needs to discuss this, to help provide direction for our growing economy. It would be nice to get it all, but sometimes realities do get into the way of the best laid plans.
Do we want to be flexible, to be better able to react to the situation or set into a course that limits our reactions to game situations?
Please discuss as much as possible.

I fear moving the palace will tie down much needed production. Perhaps after CBR is gone, we can build it in "New Apolyton."

We never have to build the palace. Simply Abandon the capital, and you get a new palace in another city (subject to a formula).
---
Personally, I think that it is a good idea to palace jump, because I think that our capital is not in the best place it could be. I know that some of you will goggle as you read that sentence, but let me explain.
If we build a city to the north of Apolyton, it is going to be crippled by all of the taundra up there. Therefore, I would like that city to have the wheat, so it can generate plenty of food, and use the excess food on working taundra forests. For me, the best place for a city would be on the tile 88899, at the mouh of the river.
This city would need to use all of the land tiles it could, so if we had another city to the north of our capital (and we will, the worker pump), it is going to be crippled itself if we leave Apolyton where it is.
So what I suggest is we build the FP in a town to our southwest, around the cow river area (I like the site 44111), and we palace jump to a town to our south east, about 3333 (Need more exploration before we set any of the city positions in stone).
What this does is it opens up space in our current core for other cities to exploit. We can jump our capital to the optimal distance from our FP, so our cities are as productive as possible in both the short and long term.

You see, you don't have to jump far away when doing a palace jump. You can just jump the palace to a city a few tiles away to open up some more land for other cities to use.

A question for the experts: What is the optimal distance between Palace and FP for our map?

Okay, what rank should the FP-City have? ~16? ~20?

As I said in the wonder-thread: If we build SoZ, as it very much looks like, and we lose the race we can build the fP in that city, as it will be a productive one.
