as i said earlier: i just do not like great wonders...
though SoZ is very good!
but the others are building their first cities earlier than we are. so they are faster than we are. and when somebody builds SoZ everybody will switch to the pyramids!
and I just do not see the point of SoZ if we can build units instead!...

Puh, that's a difficult one. For me it's THE ONE Antike Great Wonder I would want, especially in SP but also in MP. But if we go for it, we have to go 100% for it, otherwise we will lose the race. In our case that means we would need to let our capital build it, because I don't see an extremely shield-rich spot for our second city. But our capital is so wonderfully set up as a settler-enkidu-factory, it would be a shame to abuse it for the SoZ.
Trying it only halfheartedly and probably switching to the Pyramids is imho no alternative. Those 400 Shields you can put to a far better use in the Military.

I don't think we will be quick enough, if it is only our third city that builds the SoZ.

This is the confusion: Krill said that the comparison should be made between a city building the SoZ, and a city building barracks and then swords (at least, that's how I read it)
In the comparison that Moonbars made, he pointed out that the SoZ cost 200 and barracks cost 40, so building the SoZ instead of barracks is a 160 shield increase. Therefore, the resources spent building the SoZ could get you a barracks and 5 plus a bit swords.
But then Krill came back and said that the city building the SoZ should also build a barracks for a fair comparison. This is true, but he didn't actually say it initially. Hence the real comparision is between:
City 1: SoZ + barracks (240)
City 2: barracks (40) + 6 swords + [2 Enkidus - Krill]
But then you also have issues of timing and opportunity cost, etc etc, so the ultimate verdict depends more on what we intend to do with regards to expansion, defence and war.

Hey Krill, I appreciate you editing my post to be more accurate what with the 2 Enks, but it would be nice if you put a little note at the bottom to say what the edit was.

The biggest problem we have in this game, at the moment, is a lack of shields. We have a severe lack on bonus grasslands.
In the future, when we are in a different government, our core will be amazing, with all of the bonus food and hills.
But at the moment, we have limited shields available.
---
I have not simmed anything out far enough to see what is better for the short term, or the long term, with regards to the SoZ. I won't do it for a very simple reason. We don't know where the iron is, and the second settler that we build is going to head off to claim it.
---
The points that Donegeal bring up are valid, and are very good points, but the former only starts to take effect after they become obselete, which is against Muskets (but they are iffy against pikes, excluding defensive bombardment), but the latter is always a good point.
---
Yes, Adrian, that is what I meant, so thanks for wording it so much better. I edited your post to make it slightly more accurate, if that is OK with you. My apologies if it is not.

My personal view on this matter is that while we might just finish the SoZ before turn 80 (which is when the war against CBR would likely start), we would not get the AC for a while. And as we are going to be struggling to scrape together the shields to build the main army, I think it would be better for us if we built a barracks and troops than the SoZ.
And this all stems from the fact that the Enkidu does not upgrade to a sword...

Really? Even taking into account the amount of workers we have to build to add to the city, and taking into account the amount of worker turns we have to spend on improving the tiles around the city?
Look, the fact of the matter is this. If we go for SoZ we have to go for it full throttle, because we can't risk losing it. Because if we lose it, and go for the Pyramids, we end up spending another 200 shields on a wonder, instead of military units.
And if we go for it full throttle, we have to neglect our expansion, because we won't have our worker pump up and running it build the required workers.
This lack of expansion means that we won't be generating shields in those cities, because they won't even be founded, and so our military build up is delayed.
So we either go to war with less units, or we wait for the military forces to reach a high enough level before we attack. And if we do that, and CBR have MM, they have a very good chance of going round on gallies with settlers, or god forbid they end up reaching fued, and we have to attack defence 4 Swiss Mercs.
