CTP Freezing Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Hi,

Sorry for posting this in the wrong forum but I can't see anywhere else where this may go.

I have just bought the Value version of CTPII; the AOM project has rekindled my interest in turn base games.

I have installed CTPII, then Patch, AOM (in a completely different directory) and then Modswapper. I then tried to play AOM but I got the error message wrong disk in drive. But I solved this by replacing the AOM "CTPProgram" directory with the version from CTPII.

However when I try to play a CTPII or AOM game the computer will freeze all the time when changing the name of the leader when starting the game. This is not too bad but it will also freeze at different points in game as well. I have never been able to play more than 2 turns without a lockup.

I have windows 2000 with a 1 GHz processor.

Anyone had this problem before, any advice on what to do?

A CTPProgram folder? Actual it should be a ctp2_program folder, this name would indicate that it is from CTP1. However this folder contains a folder called ctp whether it is CTP1 or CTP2.

Now I have a suspicion, does the ctp folder that comes with AOM contain a file called texture.dat? That would explain your first problem.

For your second problem you should post the feedback in one of the AOM threads or in the AOM forums.

Of course you can also try our playtest, but be warned so far the playtest does not support the entire slic code of AOM.

Hi Martin,

The folder was called CTP2_program; I was doing the e-mail from memory.

The strange thing is that I get the same problem in the normal CTP game so I assumed that it was not AOM related.

The Source Code conversion project sounds great, however I bet it is a lot of work

Are you working to integrate AOM, how are things going?

Something you should have posted before. However I would search the problem first on your system, outdated drivers for instance, other applications that are running in the background. And of course the amount of system resources the game uses would maybe helpful. And of course a comparision against the playtest. But then you have to ask Fromafar I you can run AOM with the playtest.

My system is using Microsoft automatic updates, so it should be up to date with system files.

The graphics card is a Geforce 2 MX and I downloaded the latest driver for this around 6 months ago.

I have a sound blaster audio card which I have not updated for years; maybe I will try this next. I noticed a few posts in some of the old forums where people have shutoff hardware acceleration for audio, is this a known problem?

I shutdown all background process when running games, I hate to think that I am losing performance

I am using DirectX 9c

Any other things that CTPII does not like?

I think tonight I will see if the event viewer reports anything when the error happens, this is if the kids leave me along for long enough

I don't know but this could be worth a test, of course this holds for other hardware acceleration as well.
