Alien Crossfire vs. the Planetary Pack Increase the size of your Attachments

If I already have Alpha Centauri, and I would like to get Alien Crossfire, then is there any difference, game-wise, between buying Alien Crossfire on its own and buying the Planetary Pack (which features both Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire)?

With the planetary pack you'll have an application that launches first and asks you which game, Centauri or Crossfire, you want to play. It then launches Terrain.exe or TerrainX.exe, whichever you selected.

Also, You'll need your CD to play. Though I have reinstalled the full version of the original SMAC over it and it still lets me play, I don't have Crossfire so I still need a CD for the expantion.

Otherwise the planetary pack is identical to the Single retail game in everyway. It you want it go for it.

You also get this option with the Crossfire-only product.

Both products require you to have the CD in the drive to play Crossfire.

Good luck in finding any copy of Crossfire at a reasonable price. Your best bet is to find a copy of something called the "Laptop Collection". This contains both Alpha Centauri and the Planetary Pack, plus other games.

Yeah, this topic is sort of a moot point, considering I have yet to find enough money to afford SMAX in any form..."Laptop Collection" is news to me though, thanks for mentioning it; could you give any more details about it (which countries it is/was distributed in, and by who)?

The Laptop Collection was Published by EA - Electronic Arts. All I know is that it was produced in America. There are used copies on Amazon.com they run from $73 USD. I don't know how accessable they would be to someone outside the U.S. though.

Yeah it is a shame the Full Laptop Collection wasn't published further afield, especially in Europe. Especially in the United Kingdom and Ireland. I still see SMAC only budget versions but not SmaX.
