Urgh, thanks Berz...

Since I'm kinda harried at the moment - again - here's the Cliff's Notes version of what's going on:

• Yes, we are playing this year, and as always, we are doing teams and individual competition. Because I am an overworked college student and was 1) too distracted 2) too lazy to put a thread together weeks ago, you can still make picks for this week (due Thursday!) but they won't count in the official standings for either team or individual competition.
  
• Picks as always are against the given spread. If you pick the favorite, the favorite must win by more than the given number for you to score. If you pick the underdog, you score if the underdog wins or loses by no more than the given number. Each game has the same values - no confidence stuff, no underdog bonuses. Deal with it.
  
• If you want to be in a team, post your members in this thread and identify yourselves on Sportsline with a three-letter code in your username. (There should be many existing examples of this already.)
  
• If you are new and want to participate this year, please send me a PM with a working e-mail address and I will send you an invitation. You will need a Sportsline account.
  
• We'll take care of season picks around Week 4 or 5.

Is this sportsline policy or an option they gave you as commish? It would be wise to wait a week given a thursday start and how the season sneeks up on alot of us.

No, it doesn't, Ming, but it's not like Sportsline has the option to add the playoffs like we've done all these years either, and yet we've gotten it to work out fine. We'll manage.

Seems silly not to count the first week when most of the people have picked. Just silly. Maybe we should start one where it's taken seriously.

My reason not to count the first week is more for those who are joining the pool for the first time. It's not really fair to give them only a two-day window to join and get their first set of picks in. This way, new people have a decent amount of time to join and still have a fair shot at winning. (Because a week with no scores is a significant detriment, even with the emphasis we place on playoff picks.)

Then you can probably count me out.
I'm in so many others of these, being in one less (that's not even for the whole season) won't be missed.
Having to look at standings and subtracting the first week will be a nightmare all year. And waiting for someone take extra time to post who's really winning 4 weeks later is outright stupid.

Maybe i'll feel differently next week, but I doubt it.

Can someone top this for a day so people know the thread exists?

Why dont we just play it normally and see how many people sign up after Thursday's game? Sportsline will play it normal, it'll just make alot of work for you. If several people miss the first week we can always see if they were close enough to win had they made picks.

I know if I missed the first week due to short notice and an early friggin game, I'd let everyone know if I lost 1st by 5-6 points or less
