Poll time frames - is 72 hours too short? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

The current constitution allows polls to only run for 72 hours. I feel that as we have so many lurkers members trash haulers and basic good guys cruzing the many haunts of the internet that 72 hours is no longer a good enough time frame.

So I hereby open this discussion: Should polls now run longer than 72 hours?

you couldn't have made this a poll?

It all depends on what's being polled I suppose.

The poll comes later, 8 days after the debate is started.

And that is part of the Constitution.

It would be quite ironic to have a 72 hour poll to extend the deadline more.

I personally feel that 72 hours is enough. Any more time and we might be hurting ourselves waiting for the outcome.

I agree with RM. I like to see the game moving along. If we held polls for much monger than 72 hours we might end up holding a save for days on end.

Agreed.

72 hours is enough, We only have 10~15 players active at the moment, no more. We all check Poly in a regular basis (every 15 minutes ), and the The Lurker Express keeps everyone else up to date.

Keep the game moving!

ok, to focus the discussion a bit more then, this came up in relation to the current consul poll.

I agree game decisions should be 72 hours - keep the flow.

Yet in other matters, such as elections, why ot allow all to participate.

I want more people involved.

However, how involved are you if you aren't checking in at least once in three days, and... GULP... how much do we want people who are here once a week to be making our decisions?

NYE, you do raise valid points. Yet in that if we only have a team of people here every 3 days then we should all just leave now and hand the keys back to Ormuzd to just finish the job as in round one.

The poll for Consul is not game turn critical.

There are three consuls, of which you are the major force at this time. My hope / thoughts for that taking on other consuls and ministers was to not just play a good game, but to allow all players the opportunity to have a go. To expand the opportunities here at Poly where we have many players actively involved in demo games, not just a "demo pplayers elite" made up of people who have no real life (what ever that is ) expectations.

Thus in opening up the length of some polls, such as elections, beyond the 72 hour deadline, we thus start to encourage the lurkers to step up and have there say

this in turn could be a first step for some of them that leads to them being more involved.

so yeah, I do want people who are only here once a week to be involved in making decisions, after all they be members. and they to had to answer the many difficult questions to gain access

I'd say we have to differ the polls.
Ingame-related polls should not last longer than 72h. E. g. city site planing.
But polls that decide about alliances, consuls or other longterm out of game/diplomatic topics should perhaps last a bit longer (120h?).

Um, so long as they make an informed decision, then I see no problem with how much time people spend browsing this forum.

But the only way to be 100% certain that people have a reason for a vote is to ask them to state that reason in the thread, and make everyone vote by paw, so that we can be certain that they are not just being "random". And this is not democratic, so we should not do it.

Hence we make the polls last 72 hours. It is far from perfect, but at the moment it is the only thing that we know that could work.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

and then those who are not here in 72 hours do not get to have their say.

and thus polls can be swayed by posting them when weekend warriors are not going to be here etc

I said it was far from perfect. But increasing the amount of time the polls are open for (with the possible exception ofthe consular elections) might not be the best answer, for the reason that NYE gave.

A possible answer the weekend problem would be that every poll has to be open for atleast two week days, or maybe three weekdays minimum instead. This would mean that the longest the polls could be open for is 4 days.

It seems to be a perfect solution... For this moment. We can't force people to get involved... Not yet.
Should we amend this to the CoL? ?

Btw, we do have a CoL, right?

Discussion is to last 8 days? Perhaps the approx. time for the poll to be opened up should be placed into the first post of any thread that is going to lead to a poll, so people have 8 days in which to read that thread, and know in advance that if they want to vote, they need to either:

1) Find 2 minutes to log in and vote
2) Post via proxy, by emailing a consul?
