	Age of Empires III Demo Out Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

Ok, I know it's been posted in the Age of Empires 3 thread, but lets get realistic here, this news needs to be shouted from the highest tree, not shout deep in some cave that no one goes in; because no one expects a demo.

I liked it, it's certainly a nice looking game.

I think a lot of the features were taken out though as I can't do formations.

I was really hoping to add roads and upgrade the walls.

I also hope that world size can be increased a lot more.

It's true the interface is too big, I hope there is a key to minimise it and/or simplify it.

Is it still micromanagement heavy like previous AoE where you have to manage all your peasants? If it is, I am not touching this game with a ten foot pole.

afraid so although automanaging is better. RTS games are going to have some speed as part of the skill needed.

Hmm, the automanaging is better, the villagers pick up things to do - which is a good thing because I have been unable to find an "idle villager" button. Also, queueing build commands is a welcome addition.

Not convinced yet though. The removal of stone as a fourth resource is probably a good thing, but demands on gold (coin) has been moved down the tech tree so the early game is more complicated I think. And the random treasure spots are just annoying. Like goody huts in civ, they're not really worth spending effort on (and the effort needed is more than in Civ), but cumulatively their effect can't be ignored.

Also I found a bug. It crashes to desktop just before I win.

I liked it. Some bugs, but I'm sure they'll take care of that.

The idle villager button is in the top left corner.

What's the deal with the different buildings (cathedral(?) and so on) in the "home city"? They don't do anything.

great thread on it at QT3. I haven't played it myself but it seems as if it's mostly multiplayer focused so of course micro is probably going to be nuts.

It says that minimum requirements includes Windows XP. I'm on Windows 98 so I take it it's not worth me downloading it?

Yeah, the physics engine is very good. Other than that, I am not at all impressed with this game.

hehehe I beat it on expert. the trick is to move to the little island (the stupid ai won't invade it), build mills and plantations, get the spies thing so you can see all the enemy units, then send suicide missions to destroy the enemy's towncentres (with mortars), then kill all their peasants (cavalry), destroy their barracks etc (mortars again), and then defeat their remaining army in an epic battle.

I am an avid fan of AOEII:The Conqueroirs and this demo has potential

The problem is I need to simply override my initial knee jerk reastion button whic cause the hairs to stand up on the back of my neck and say somethings a miss here

I think it was summarized above the interface screenie map thingey

plus ya cant save a demo game

I will probaly still buy it in Oct when it comes out

years ago before "passport" frigged things up

I would go and play the rogue spear series as well as AOEII Conquerors

I spen so much time there

this was of course dial up/isdn (twin) trailer trash hookup

before Cable

I havenet been back in over a year

triued to configure my firewall and still could never get in

I do a lot of scenarios

I use three ai which are very decent

Maximus 2_0_a,Duke v1.6 and Zycat

I found those to some of the best
