Valve has sent out a press release regarding the release of Day of Defeat: Source. The game will be released on September 26th, a mere seventeen days away. Good news for those with powerful graphics setups: the maps will feature HDR support. And to those who don't own the Silver or Gold HL2 packages, DoD: Source will run you $20.
Day of Defeat: Source (DoD: Source), the latest version of the WWII online action game from Valve®, will be made available to gamers everywhere on September 26.
"Day of Defeat has quietly been one of the most played online action games for the past three years," said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. "Day of Defeat: Source represents a major leap forward in both graphics and gameplay, and pushes the Source engine harder than any other Source project. "
DoD: Source takes the classic teamplay of DoD and expands the experience with Source, the engine technology Valve created for Half-Life® 2 and it's next generation of games. With this technology, DoD: Source offers state of the art graphics with optimized versions of popular maps and all new player, weapon and world models, plus support for HDR lighting.
DoD: Source leverages the power of the Source engine by introducing advanced sound technology to provide a more immersive soundscape and integrated physics simulation technology for ragdolls and physically simulated objects throughout each map.
Available via Steam for just $19.95 and in the Counter-Strike: Source retail package, DoD: Source is a rebuild from the ground up of Day of Defeat on the Source engine.
DoD: Source will be available for pre-load and pre-order next week. Those who purchased the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold Steam offers will receive a request to pre-load the game at this time and will receive access to play the moment the game is made available.

DoD is still king, IMO
WW2 shooters ranked
1. DoD (and soon to be DoD: Source)
2. BF1942 (without vehicles, BF1942 is terrible)
3. CoD
4. everything else
What sets DoD apart is the style of play. It's more like street fighting and house to house fighting that any other game. Other WW2 shooters are in fields and stuff, out in the open. DoD focuses more on maps that take place in towns. Avalanche, Caen, etc... dod_Charlie is also the best D-Day video game experience ever. You have to blow up the barriers and then destroy the four targets in order to win as the Allies. And as Axis, you just have to survive.
Other games seem to care more about looking the part, caring more about the graphics. That's fine. DoD is more about the actual experience and the gameplay, which makes it the superior game.
However, with the Source engine, DoD is now ahead of the pack in terms of graphics.
