New Main Page Style Suffering from ads?

Our homepage had a small re-design in order to match the section design styling used in the Essence-powered sections (civ4, about, galciv2 example: http://apolyton.net/civ4)

1) how soon should i make a similar forum style?

2) should i use a different way to do rounded corners in tables or should we keep them firefox-only?
