I dont know if this sounds crass but it is worth saying. I wonder if this one that counts as a price u pay for airing ur dirty laundry in public?? I feel for this lady and her family what the net work did was wrong, but if u set your self up for free stuff in the eye of the public who says it all has to be all good??? You must be willing to accpet the good with the ut most horror. The idea that her sister killed her self because of this is what bothers me. I seem to think there were alot more problems in the girls life then her calling her sister ugly out loud. Believe me i am not trying to be insenstive but this is a bit way the hell ou there..

I think this is an awful situation and I wish her luck in the suit on the merits of breach of contract and such, but I don't buy that this in any way made her sister commit suicide. Her sister was obviously emotionally ****ed up well before this, and I sincerely doubt they can conclusively link the show to her death. My guess is she would have offed herself regardless.

sheeeesh-- ABC made a promise to give someone a freebie and then broke it-- Could they be liable for providing said freebie ? Perhaps . . . depends on terms of the contractual relationship. Do they have any liability because a relative is distraught that they did not provide said freebie? Not on any reasonable construction of law that I am aware of.

Actually, I'd like to see them win against the producers.

Not because I think they deserve it, or because they necessarily have a legal rigth to, but because shows like this pollute my airwaves, are broadcast through my body (well, the em waves are), and are nothing more than unadulterated ****.

If they lose big, and are forced off the air, I'll count that as a victory.

Oh yes sir the woman was made aware of the facts that her makeover might not happen. the network said she signed waivers relasing them of fault if the makeover is not to happen. the only thing she might have on her side, which wasnt mentioned, is if there was a time frame of notification that the make over will not happen in the contract.

Again all this is what we would expect-- so it seems the evil evil producers probably told her from the start that a makeover was not certain and they needed to do some preliminary stuff to determine who gets the freebie.

But for the rest of you, please don't let facts get in the way of a good ahte on for ABC or major corporations oe whatever

and for that I don't blame the networks. If people don't watch, a show gets axed pretty quick which unfortunately has been the fate of many programs which IMHO are far better that what is on the networks.

Of course there is a preliminary selection of "victims", but if it's true what the OT says she was selected and there had even been spots telling about her. I wouldn't care a bit if she hadn't passed the preliminaries, but after that ...

Tragically, there's no accounting for taste. It's why schlock like Walker, Texas Ranger or Stargate SG-1 get ratings, while shows like Undeclared and Firefly are ignored.

No, if left unchecked, people will do the same stupid things they've always done.

The reason why most of my disgust is geared towards the reality TV producers and shows instead is that they're enablers. They enable the whoring in a way that until recently, just wasn't possible. Much like how I feel sorry for drug addicts, I feel sorry for the attention-starved camwhores who want to be famous for all 30 seconds--but I feel no pity, just disgust and anger, at those who'd push the plague onto the victims.

Yes, a case can be made that those who participate are complicit in their abasement. It's perfectly fine to be disgusted at their behavior, but should we be disgusted with them, as people? No. They're just so desperate for attention that pity is really the only emotion I can conjure for them.

...and as far as watchers of this tripe, I wouldn't call them enablers so much as just passive participants~ heinously accepting spoon-fed dung because they've convinced themselves that it might not be utter ****. Pity? No. Disgust? A little. Shame that I belong to the same species? Very much so.

The network told this woman that the makeover may never happen it was only a proprosal. They have stated that they never promised her this was going to happen only that it is possible. If you are willing to subject yourself to this humaliation then i cant feel sorry for you. This lady knew it was possible that shed be nixed i am assuming she didnt realize it could or would be the night before the surgery.

They should have had a surgeon co-ordinate the effort from the get go and give them an estimate of time and cost first. Undoubtedly it's difficult to find a high income bracket professional like a plastic surgeon willing to do that sort of scut work for a TV show.
