	'Ugly' mom sues ABC for nixing makeover Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Superior Court. As part of the premakeover hype, producers coaxed McGee and other family members to trash Williams' looks on videotape, the suit alleges. When they suddenly pulled the plug on the project, and the promised "Hollywood smile like Cindy Crawford," a guilt-ridden McGee fell apart. "Kellie could not live with the fact that she had said horrible things that hurt her sister. She fell to pieces. Four months later, she ended her life with an overdose of pills, alcohol and cocaine," said Wesley Cordova, a lawyer for Williams. "This family is shredded. There is a human cost to this," Cordova said. Williams, 30, and her husband, Mike, are raising McGee's two children, along with two kids of their own. The suit seeks unspecified money damages for breach of contract, intentional infliction of emotional distress and other offenses. "Deleese is so hurt and humiliated, she won't leave the house now. She grocery shops at midnight," Cordova says. ABC declined to comment on the allegations. The show announcing Williams' selection for a mega makeover had already aired on Jan. 7, 2004, when the producers abruptly dropped her because the dental surgeon told them her recovery time would be longer than expected, Cordova said. Williams was alone in a Los Angeles hotel room reading her pre-op instructions when a producer showed up and dashed her dream of a new life with a "pretty" face, the suit alleges. "You will not be getting an extreme makeover after all. . . . Nothing. It doesn't fit in our time frame. You will have to go back to Texas tomorrow," the suit alleges she was coldly told. Williams broke down sobbing: "How can I go back as ugly as I left? I was supposed to come home pretty," the suit says. The 31-page complaint begins with the line "Deleese Williams is considered ugly." It details a horrendous tale of pain and humiliation that began when she applied for the reality show in December 2003 and had to submit a "full body shot" video showing "all of the body parts that need help." For years, Williams' friends and family "didn't notice or pretended not to notice" her homely looks, but once she got picked for the show, they were coached to focus on nothing but her physical flaws, the suit says. In McGee's taped interview, she tried to play up her sister's good points. But the hard-nosed producers "peppered Kellie with questions about her childhood with the ugly Deleese . . . and repeatedly put words in her mouth," the suit says. To please the producers, Williams' mother-in-law also laid it on thick. "She said things like 'I never believed my son would marry such an ugly woman.' " Cordova says. The family's comments never aired on TV, but Williams, who was in an adjoining room, heard them all. The experience ruined her family life. "Now that she returned in the same condition in which she left, there were no secrets, no hidden feelings, no reward," the suit says. McGee's "guilt was overwhelming." She OD'd on May 25, 2004, four months after the show's producers sent her sister packing. "These programs are cheap to produce - there are no actors or screenwriters to pay. But there is a very high human cost," Cordova said.

I wonder if she has enough for a breah of contract suit. That was really evil of them, especially after pushing her family to say really horrible things about her on the air.

Even though it didn't fit into their time frame, they could still have done the make over and just not aired it. Lord knows they make enough money on these thing.

While I suspect the family to be exageratting things a touch for effect, I hope they get a good settlement and they use it to get this woman the make over she was promised.

People just loves their 15 minutes of fame, so no wonder there are plenty willing to join. Though, this special show has some impact on peoples life - have zapped into it a couple of times, and if it hasn't made a difference to the persons involved, it often have for the surrounding community.

I'm quite sure that you haven't read it - your post reveals it - show makes promises - show changes mind - show should be burned on a stake.

Cosmetic surgery isn't in any way stupid - lots of people gets a better life though it, but as in any other case of life some people can't get enough and gives it a bad name.

Have folks becoms so vain that they need to change everything about their bodies??? I have to say yes God This craze is out of hand. I recently went to a new surgery center and was to be working with a new Dr that specalizes in no other then, plastic surgery of a womens female parts. I was like wtf?? who the hell can see down there and who cares??? I dunno have we reached the level of complete lunacy to be so vain as to actually care what that your labias and female parts look beautiful?? I feel for the lady I hope she gets what she is entitled to

Thats what I was talking about when saying cosmetical surgery has got a bad name.

There are thousands of victims of burns, damage and birth defects that really gets a better life through this kind of treatment.

Unfortunatedly, such treatments aren't cheap, and when a show like this says it will pay and then backs off because of "bad timing", I'm starting to look for matches and good dry wood.

I admit that the reactions described in to OT is pretty weird, but the show shouldn't make promises they don't intend to fulfill.

That's fricken despicable. I hate all these shows like "Extreme Makeover", "The Swan", etc etc. Their all pieces of crap. I especially hate how so many men and women in American society get sucked into it even if they don't agree.

It's all about, 'so long as it makes them feel better about themselves, it's ok' bullshite. I think you gotta fix the inside of the person before you fix the outside. Buying a set of boobs or fixing your butt because it hangs a bit is too much.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But if it IS broke, then I can agree (hairlip, holes in your cheek, stuff like that).



ABC should be fined. The producers should be fired, jailed, and blacklisted from television...as well as having their property seized, liquidated and turned over to the woman. I really hope this person gets a smackload of money and wins this suit.

Exactly. Just do the surgery and if they want to, save the footage and make it into some kind of "special event" program or whatever. But they didn't do that.

@Frankychan : You apparently haven't seen the show - the main jobs isn't boob jobs - at least not those I have seen - it has mainly been facials and not nessacarily surgery.

Like the plastic surgery was too tight for the budget, even if they canceled the show, they could have at least given her the surgery...

And btw, I don't know much about it, but do people really want to hear this "she was soo damn ugly stuff?" I'd turn off immediately.

I watched one of these kind of shows...well I watched the first half an hour. The lady they had on wasn't a 10, I'll admit, but she didn't need excessive surgery.

I think all she needed was dental reconstruction cause her teeth really were in need of getting fixed. Her nose wasn't crooked, her posture wasn't haggardly, but she was a little chunky.

But that bodyfat can be fixed with diet and exercise.

I HAVE seen those previews of the next show thing they use for commericals, most of the women don't really need all that crazy surgery...just fix what's broken. Not overhaul the whole damned car.

Franky chan I wasnt talking about the womans butt. This surgeon does plastic surgery on the front side of the butt. That is to ignorant if u ask me. I dont understand the whole concept, How does a new set of boobs make a woman happy??? I have accepted my flaws and feel if you dont like me for the charming thing I am Then the hell with ya

Oh, sorry I wasn't angry cause of you. The surgeon you discussed is full of it, IMO. I mean, again, if he's fixing broken stuff down there then I think it's ok. But if he's just tending stuff to make it look nicer, that's bogus crap.

I was talking to this one girl about plastic surgery and she said, to paraphrase, this:

These types of modifications aren't for strong women like you. It's for the weak ones that can't accept themselves. But I would be willing to bet that you're not as bad off as some of these women are. (my wife watches the swan) The one thing that I liked about that show was that the makeover included therapy.
Some of the women were in desperate need of that.

While I think there actions were reprehensible, I am not sure if they did anything actionable. This comes out of the fact that none of us know what the actual contract, if any, between the parties looked like.

Generally a promise to give someone something for free is not enforceable so any contract claim would have to accept that the offensive interviews were given as consideration for the makeover. ABC could conceivably lose on those grounds depending on what was said.

But the death of a sister? ABC is responsible for that how?? Was she powerless to stop evil producers from making her say stuff? Did she not have the ability to later say " Sis you know that stuff isn't true . . . but they said the worse I made things sound the better the show".

I can't see where they did anything that would generally qualify as a tort unless you believe that they intentionally did things designed to cause mental suffering. So the remedies, if any, would have to come from broken promises.

I agree that their conduct here is apalling in many ways but then again many rude things are NOT actionable. Example: A sleeps with B's wife and and B upon hearing that he was a "lousy lay" committs suicide. B's children by a prior relationship sue A and B's wife. Any legal action?? Terrible conduct that causes someone upset in both cases.
