As a kid I used to read comics very much. I have become smarter since and thus more critical. That is to say, I've overgrown most comics.
Most are trash anyway. American bodybuilders in tights and variations to the theme. Here in Croatia the popular ones were from Italian house Bonelli: Zagor, Tex Willer, Mister No, Martin Mystere and so on. They seem very childish to me now, but still better than American mainstream ****.
Then there are European comics like Asterix, Gaston and a variety of French and Belgian authors. Some are just classics, Gaston for example is timeless.
Then there are the "artistic" comics, which I rarely like. Social critique and other "heavy" topics.
Then there is Manga, which I can't stand with the exception of Akira, which was a pretty good read.
Here is a comic from a popular Croatian author:

More or like pararel story with me. Then when i got older (buit not wiser) I discovered Babel, the magazine, which has some great underground comics which are definitely for adult audience without that meaning they are porn or violent. They just have a unique prespective and might be offending to some "square" types. They are hilarius.
