I'm quick on turns, I easily check 4-6 times a day.. hopefully we'll get this game moving and let it stay moving.

I am looking forward to this game as well. However, during the week I can usually only get one turn out per day, and usually only in the evening. My work schedule simply does not allow for much else. On the weekends, I do try to play as many turns as possible during the day. And if you two are up for trying to play via TCP/IP on the weekends I am game, though I have never done so before.

Subject: Planetfall

Greetings my followers. After the excitement of our escape from the exploding Unity, I am pleased to announce that we have made Planetfall with a minimum of losses.

Our new home appears to be a moderately sized island stradling the equator of Chiron. Incomplete data scans from our pods on the way down indicate that there are at least 2 other similar land masses, along with massive polar regions. After the founding of our first base and the initial construction of the recycling tanks, I sent out scouts to locate ideal spots for new bases.

My friends, Chiron looks to be a planet of wonderous life and beauty. Initial scouting has found that this planet has massive swaths of a plant form that resembles a cross between lichen and small trees. Lifescans indicate that there may be some animal lifeforms as well, but we shall have to wait on that score.

Lastly, the powerful storms that accompanied out descent have shown me that we must learn to understand the weather patterns of our new home. Accordingly, I have asked our scientists to investigate these patterns and how we may be able to adjust ourselves to benefit from the patterns.

Are either/both of you in another one of these apolyton tournament games? This one started different than the last two.. a couple minor points, really... did either off you notice anything different? If neither of you have played in one of these before you wouldn't know

We welcome commerce, information exchange and good will. However, we will brook no interferance on the issue of fair treatment for workers. So I look to you both and ask you if you're brethren with us, or if you, like that wretched Yang before, are vile oppressors.

Nice to see some "role-playing" touches to this game from the both of you! Keep it up!

TigToad: Yes I have noticed some differences from other games in this tournament. For example, my starting city has a pop. of 3. If I remember correctly from the other games it was 4 before, but I might be wrong on this. How big are your starting cities guys?

Tau emailed me and I think I figured out the problem. We are supposed to start with a size 3 city 1 turn from growing to size 4. However, because I was the drones I had an awesome 20% production bonus, I'd already finished my first colony pod so I started with an extra pod and a size 2 city. (Those were my differences).. my guess is before you had a faction with a growth bonus so had already 'grown' to size 4.

Not entirely correct. Each faction starts with a size 3 city with 20 nutrients and 10 minerals in the box initially. Then the CMN plays one turn to set the passwords, and then the players get one more turn of production before they get to do anything. Net totals are 22 nutrients and 26 minerals.
You need (30 - 3*Industry) minerals for a Colony Pod and (32 - 4*Growth) nutrients (Children's Creche accounted for already) to grow to size 4.

Most factions will then be 4 minerals away from building their Colony Pod. The Hive will be 1 away and the Drones will already have built it and have 2 spare minerals, leaving them with a size 2 city. Getting a size 4 city in that time would require a Growth rating of +3 in addition to the effect of the Children's Creche, so that should not happen. If it did, that was a mistake on the part of the CMN.

I will not be able to play again until tonight. Basically I will commit to checking for a save file first thing in the morning (6:00 am central) and playing if possible and then again after work (usually get home around 8:00pm) Monday through Friday.

Ok, glad we figured that one out. I just wasn`t sure if the other games had started with a size 4 or 3 city. Now I know Thanks for clearing that up Tau Ceti.

It seems everywhere we go on this desolate planet we find the strange native life. Even in our resupply pods. So much good could have been done with those supplies had they not been destroyed by the planetary menace.

Yahoo Mail (who actually owns rocketmail, my mail host) has been having internal problems since yesterday. Basically that means I haven't been able to access my mail box since yesterday afternoon. Well, it doesn´t seem like much of a point to continue if we are only going to be two players. Perhaps if we were further in to the game...I´ve got a lot of other PBEM´s going on so maybe we should just scrap this one. New ones will come along I guess. What do you think?
