I'm game & your timings = good by me, however...
Why not no huts & no wonders?
If R U seeking a high-level of skill game, why not exclude huts?
If U prohibit wonders, U will turn the game into a true test of civilization creation & conquering, not JUST ANOTHER race for a few MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE "wonders" that instantly warp the playing field in favor of the "wonder race winner" to the exclusion of all others. And if the same player gets about 3 of these... it is IMPOSSIBLE to ever catch them.
Therefore, if think that an interesting game of Civ is victory goes to the ruler that has doz's of empty cities (except a few temples) & 3-4 key "wonders", then count me out of just another tired-of-the-same-old-unrealistic "strategy" wins contests.
PS: U mite want to double-chek w/ Nappy about playing on one of those we-know-what's-best socialists' map.
Good luck!
If U turn it into a REAL civilization game on an unknown world, i'd like to participate.

generally I also wouldnīt mind to have a 5 players game. maybe thatīs even better when we finally vote about the settings . however Iīm still waiting for an answer by Nappy here.
there are a couple of reasons why I want to have huts and wonders enabled in this game:
huts may be a luck factor, yes. on the other hand without huts, civ is losing one of its most important elements: exploring. on a no huts map, it almost doesnīt make no sense at all to build any exploring unit in the beginning. and nobody please tell me exploring has nothing to do with strategy.
since civfanatics ladder, there is no lack of no hut games anymore, anyway. I also registered to this league and made my first experiences there. I noticed in these games that you simply have to play down a prepared plan of how to grow fastest under certain conditions. my impression, itīs a spitting out settlers with no interaction to anyone before at least 500BC and no need to adapt to new unexpected situations game. Iīm only waiting for the first thread in the strategy section called "I have a buffalo, two whales, one wine and three gold in my area. how do I start best?"
donīt get me wrong, Milo, Iīm willing to play that kind of game with you soon. but the game Iīm thinking about here is a fun game. and itīs simply like that: games are much more fun WITH huts.
and if I wonīt be too lucky in this game - so what?
as for the wonders, see above. I think building wonders is also an element of civ2 which requires strategy. however I wouldnīt mind if we find some restrictions and/or modifications here. if the majority wants a no wonders game, then it may be.
unfortunately I canīt be at home before 16:00 Apolyton Time next sunday but I will have a lot of time then. nappy, mbloom, carnide, markus.....?

First and foremost, this is to be a "fun" game.....NOT a tournament game so I think we should incorporate some randomness and an unknown factor into the game....ie we should use a large random map with huts. As far as # of players, the more the merrier so lets have 6 or 7 players if there is interest. No gifting of caravans. All diplomat/spy functions enabled. Barbarians to keep players honest.Simultaneous movement if the majority agrees. I will be available this Sun. afternoon (does 1600 Apolyton=1400 PST?) but for a long-term ongoing game we will need to continue on a weeknight....Tues. and Wed. evenings are good for me.

16:00 Sunday is good for me. I personally like the huts and Wonders when I play and am more than willing to roll the dice at the beginning and live with what I get. Since this is a fun game, adjusting strategy and whatnot for starting position would be a good experience. My ICQ is...a...oh, yeah, in my profile.
I'll probably log-on around 15:30 to make sure I do everything correctly to avoid unnecessary delay.

hey:
Game quality really depends on what settings you use: Do you play with seven civs, at all times? with a 100x100 map? varied and large land masses? raging hordes? always deity? (king is for simple minded warmongers and expansionists: democratic and republican governments become simple to manage on this level)
These settings decrease the likelihood that one player will monopolize all the "key" happy wonders, and increases the influence of sophisticated builders and military thinkers...
100x100 makes the ais competitive, giving them room to expand and build wonders (such as the gardens and mikes); sev civs makes the game far more competitive, guranteeing, in a three human and four ai game, that the computers will get many of the wonders; varied land masses splits players up between continents and island, thus significantly reducing the power of those on islands (especially those who are incompetent with their ships or colonization), and taxing the strength of those starting right next to other players or ais; raging hordes saps the engergy of those who are unlucky, or incompetent; deity is the level sid intended for the best to play on: it is the best simulation of real civilization to date ...
