My 2102 sent to Hobbes.
Hi everybody!
First off, I goofed. I mis-read the rules and thought it was okay to communicate with y'alls from the get-go. That's only for games on the tournament map, I realize now. So each of you will be getting a little in-game message from me, please just ignore it.
Second, I have a question. I popped a pod which told me it gave me the University comm. Obviously, I already had the University comm. Now, it looks like the game must've realized this, and decided to give me Santiago's comm instead, because I now have her comm, and we've never met. So here's my question: am I allowed to talk to Hobbes_One, because the game technically said I could, or should I only talk to Santiago?
Last, I propose we come up with a name for the game, whaddaya think? Some of my friends always name their e-mail games after vegetables, such as "the potato" or "the squash". I say we call our game "Arugula".

Turn 2102 to Bother Mark
Do we have a CMN to make the rules decisions?

I emailed my question to Tau Ceti privately, and got this response:

Hmmm, strange situation. But if the game said that you have the University's
frequency, then I guess you should, so go ahead and talk to both of them.
Tau Ceti, CMN
So, Hobbes, feel free to actually regard my in-game message, and dis-regard the message to dis-regard the message. Uh, yeah.

Turn turned. Request: if we're going to call this game Arugula can we rename this thread or start a new one please? It's confusing when you're playing multiple games otherwise. Is Arugula ACT037 or ACT038...?? Well it confuses me anyway. LOL

Oh well. I just wanted to have a little fun with the naming convention, but I see how that could get confusing. As far as I know, there's no way to change the title of a thread. So, I guess I better stick with the plain ol' ACT037 name, yawn. Ah well, c'est la vie.
By the way, is there really a town named Wainscotting in England? Or are you having us on, eh? I thought it was just an interior decorating feature...

2104 flipped to Hobbes_One.
So, who am I playing against, here? Y'all must be fairly tough customers if you're willing to play on transcend, at the very least you know your way around SMAC. I've been playing SMAC rather addictively for about a year now, but I've just begun multiplayer. I've been in about four MP games against some of my pals who don't really play SMAC much (and who were hesitant to try transcend), and I'm currently still involved in my first GameLeague game. So, all told, I don't have much MP experience. What about you lot?

Turn turned.
I have been playing SMAC for 2 years, MP a bit less. I have only completed a few MP games- most die out unfortunately. I am in Ballarat in the state of Victoria, Australia. I am currently in about 8 PBEM games.

Turn 2104 to the Arugul(i?)an
I've been using SMAC for about half a year, Civ (II) for quite a few years before that. I don't always win at Transcend, but i do better than one out of seven so there you go. I'm in three other PBEM games currently, none of which have had any inter-player conflicts. No other MP experience.
Are the SMAC Gameleague games all IP?
Oh, and wainscotting is where you find the homes of mice and killer sheep.

I can't imagine IP SMAC. I tried it once, but I guess I take a long time in a turn--I like to survey everything before letting it go. It was slow going and frustrating for the other guy, too. Plus we were playing simultaneous moves, which I don't think I like; it removes some of the strategy from the game. Mark13, do you actually finish IP games? That seems like it would take an unimaginable time investment.
Actually, as far as I know, the GameLeague Alpha Centauri boards are pretty dead. When I signed up, only like 2 other games had been played. As a matter of fact, GameLeague cancels your account if you don't log on for over three months, and our game has been going so slowly, my account's been cancelled! I figure I'll start it up again once it's time to report our scores.

Turn turned.
I have never finished an IP game, but I kinda like them. Good practice. If u don't like sim moves, play it with a limited time per move. Really makes you think fast! If anyone wants to try sometime I'd be in it now I've finished studying for the year. Only working now!

2107 to H_O. Hm, maybe I won't call him that anymore.
I don't really like IP, as I said, so it's probably assumed that I'll bow out. But you guys go have fun.

Turn turned. Not much happened, another turn, another base....
My icq is 49700766. I am generally free on weekends or sometimes at other times, depending on work committments.
I am finished my university studies for this year- I am a postgrad hoping to start my PhD next year. Our semesters generally run from about beginning of march to the end of november with a couple of weeks break in the middle. So our longest holiday is during our summer- the US & European winter.

Last time I checked, SMAC wasn't working on this (wired) PC. I'll have to try loading it again.

Turn on to Hobbes_One.
By the way, how is the scoring handled in these things? What happens if someone resigns?
