Just to make sure we are all on the same page this is what the tournament rules state about communication before contact:

Tournament map: Communications between factions is allowed from the start. No restrictions.

Other maps: Communications only allowed between factions that have obtained each others' commlink frequencies in-game.

I believe we are on the "other maps" as the tournament map consists of three to four distinct islands and we would have begun with several more units such as three or more colony pods. I have bumped the old rules thread so feel free to consult the thread and correct me if I'm wrong.

With great joy, scout patrol 002 announced discovery of a mysterious monolith. It appears that, should we hook a turbine to it, we can power our generators with this strange object. Surely this will aid in our continued growth!
In other news, scientists are lauded by the government for their first technological discovery. Unfortunately, we were beaten to it by the Gaians. Let us strive to avoid that occurring again!
