This could easily be shown by giving a unit a resistance value of 1 to 10.

Early warriors and settlers could sustain large and distant marches, thus having a resistance of 10, and Modern units like, armor ect, which require fuel ect would have a resistance of 1, and cant wander too far from supplies without losing fighting effectiveness.

You could select "view supply lines" and the map would sow the supplies that could reach various squares. The closer to cities, allied cities, or special supply units, the better supplies are. THe supplies reach less effectively over rough terrian, or enemy lines obviously.

if asked why out of the five things to put on the new ideas thread why would this idea belong? what are the greatest strength in adding this idea? and what if any weaknesses or exploits does this idea have?

have you read #23 raingoon's energy idea? could these two ideas be made into one better idea? instead of supply lines, how about operating outside of your borders could increase supply costs? also how do you justify the claim that ancient units could sustain long distance marches while modern units could not? would that let ancient units roam all across the map while modern units would have limited mobility?

Well, my idea for settlers mvoing around is that settlers really arent settlers, they're nomads right? They can live off the land, go where ever they want. Think American Indians, crossing the land bridge in alaska, they really could move around where ever they wanted if they could get food there. Thats my justification for warriors and settlers.

However, other anicent units would be pretty supply dependant too. Weapons need mending, gotta have food, morale falls as you venture out into the unknown, arrows run out, ...you get the picture. All I'm saying is a Tank would run out of gas and be useless alot sooner than a legion will take to run out of food.

Modern infantry units would probably have some of the best reistances, but even they need ammo, food, letters from home, you get the idea. But anything motorized would need that all important fuel to be effective. What are you gonna do with a jet that lands on the run way empty and can refuel it? Its a 50 ton paper weight.

Plundering squares could get you some temporary relef from supply deparvation.
