I Give Up!!! Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

I just subbed in a 2 on 2 game and started a second one against Markus and Eyes. The first game was such a blowout we agreed to start a new one since the original team left leaving Kuja and I as subs. Both Markus and Eyes had 18-20 cities while Kuja and I had about 6 each at around 2400 bc. What in the hell is going on??? I know they had better terrain than us, but c'mon!!! I give up

Yes they are clever,
I wish I was as clever as them
If I was I would help others to be as clever and then we could all play at such a high level.

None of us are clever enough to have 20 cities by 2400 bc, some are lucky to have 2 cities

Must have been 2x2x on one of those "Duel maps"

20 cities by 2400 bc is an impossibility on 1x1x random or world map

Anything that involves creativity or originality you can count eyes out of no doubt.

If being clever means repeating the same exact routine over and over, I'm a monkeys uncle

no

it requires that you get a lot of tribes. Even if you did your empire would collaspe because you aren't in monarchy. But it certainly is possible. I can usually get about 8 or 9 cities at this point.. building more then that actually hurts you more then it helps. So i just use the extra settlars to build roads, till i get monarchy.

ps. I have gotten 12 tribes in a row before with one horse on 1x 1x, and my best 2x game was 21 cities at 3050 bc.

Well, as the mapmaker in that game, I know how they started anyway. I can't say what settings they chose, but unless they randomized my map, no one started out next to any specials.

Each team had a continent to themselves, so there was no danger of being found quickly by an opponent. They probably capitalized on that.

My guess would be that they divided up the tech research, met early to trade techs, and built cities with no need to defend them. They wouldn't have even needed to waste time or units trying to find the other civs.

Marcus, Eyes - Do I have it about right?

Well Cave, the first game I subbed, my capitol had only coal and I dont know about Jes. In the 2nd one Markus had buff and fish and Eyes had peat and buff allowing him to build a settler in 4 turns. I had to walk to find a special and it was gold but without very good food nearby. Markus did even better the first game as he said. But the difference in terrain is not really the issue, but their tactics as opposed to ours - they are just on a higher level... When i practiced using their positions I did much better but still far below their performances.

"rules.txt"

Granted there are a few people that probably deserve abuse when it comes to modifying things to their advantage, I was unaware that markusf
qualified as one of those people.

There have never been any mysteries when I have been in games with him. I even checked saves after playing him to get an idea how he was so successful.

So unless you have some proof, please keep those thoughts to yourself.

Rich

I modify the rules.txt for my diplogames (oracle lasts forever) but thats about it.
Since i never build more then 20-30 cities not modifying the rules.txt is to my advantage. I can't even think of what would be to my advantage to modify? If you think about it its pretty easy to get that many cities. Every bit of cash you get rush buy parts of a settlar, I changed to republic at 2850bc each game, and thats called co-ordination of techs with your partner.... 80% science 20% tax, with no cities over size 3 gives you 0 rebelion and $40 each turn to rush buy settlars.. that is a HUGE improvement of what you could ever hope to get from monarchy, and thats why monarchy players are never ever going to come close to winning a team game on a even map. We had dem and theology at 2000 bc with 1 turn a tech each. my cap did 140 science at size 8

Tired of ads?

What level and what barb activity was involved? I'm surprised that you could even contact another civ on an island world fast enough to coordinate techs to get to republic by 2850. Pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

It was a team island game. That means 1 team is on one island, and the other is on another island. Cavebear premade it for us shortly before we played. King, Villages only, 2x2x, No AI. 22 cities by 2000BC is average. I usually average myself around 26-30. With a good hut start you can go 30+ with ease. HG around 2400BC helps. hehehe

Sean is an identified cheat. My comment was directed at his rep. If Markusf plays with Eyes he can't escape the collateral damage.
