Carolus,
I'm sorry I didn't answer before, but I have spent the last 2 weeks in the USA on business.
Now your questions:
terrain3.bmp and terain4.bmp are the terrains used for Alpha Centaury, they aren't used in the Original game.
In step 3, I meant to copy the terrain1.bmp, terrain2.bmp and units.bmp that comes with the modpack into the Original folder.
Renaming the file makes them inactive, that's the reason you don't need to remove them.
The patch doesn't change the terrains but copy a new units.bmp file (just a minor correction in an image), so you have to change it again.

Thanks a lot for the clarifications!
Works like a charm, started a new game yesterday and it's looking real good (especially the terrain).
Now I can play this game. Great work, St Leo!

Even more stupid questions.
When I have downloaded a modpack, can I use only some part of it? Like the units, but not the terrain (or vice versa) or do I have to use the whole thing?
Also, I found a modpack with the original Civ2 units. Is it possible to use the units only and keep the terrain from another one (like yours) or should I avoid mixing stuff from different mods?
