Whenever I click a button on TOT it always takes ages for the effect to take place. This also happens when a new discovery is made, and any attempt to do anything until the discovery wossname comes up has the message "Close the City Screen" despite the fact the city screen isn't open.

Sorry to be of no great help, but perhaps you're RAM is low? When you play ToT, do you have other (memory hungry) programs running in the background? Is your existing RAM fairly low (e.g. 32?).

Nothing running in the background (apart from SETI@Home (but that hasn't slowed down anything before) and I have 64 mb of RAM...
