Finbar - is that patch 1.1.1? I have the 1.4b or 1.b4 or something like that...

Have any of you actually succeeded in playing a game of any reasonable length across platforms? Especially since using V1.1.1?
I'm a PC type, but have tried on numerous occasions to play with Mac friends. The experiments go back almost a year now. We used to be able to play, sort of - but the problems were much more severe than I experienced with PC-only players. Similarly, the Mac guys indicated the disconnects, etc. were much worse than they experienced when playing Mac-only games. Since they got V1.1.1 (yes, I'm using the latest PC version), we haven't been able to go more than a single turn without a critical crash.
We've basically given up - I'm currently of the opinion that cross-platform games are simply not feasible. But I was hoping someone may have been able to overcome similar obstacles...

The only problem (aside from a less than satisfactory server - now gone ) was freezing during the AI, especially when barbs appeared on my games screen. That problem has virtually disappeared (no more freezing barbs) with the 1.1.1 patch.

Guess it might be worth trying again...
Do you find it any different if there is a Mac host vs. a PC host?
Or are there any practical limits on the number of participants?
Most recent experiments (which failed) had PC as host and more than two participants.

I'm having next to no problems playing with PCers. There are the usual episodes of people being booted, but that seems not to be platform-related. In fact, about the only other Mac player I play with seems to be Bez. And the freezing on the barb/AI turn seems to have lightened off too. Doesn't stop me holding my breath every time the buggers have their turn though.
Occasionally I have episodes of being unable to connect to a game. It happened one day in a diplo game which I'd never had any problem joining before. For some reason, I couldn't get past the Waiting For Others To Join dialogue box. Eventually, for the sake of the others, I had to find a sub to play that session for me. Next session, I was in without a problem. Who knows?
I do a lot of hosting and I haven't found any differences between hosting and not hosting.
Equally, the number of players doesn't seem to matter, providing everyone's patched up. Statistically, I suppose, the more players you have, the more room there is for a problem.
