Yeah, unfortunately my boys spent their hard earned money on it for my birthday (well, with some help from mom). To be honest, I didn't like it all. It is a very dark game that requires enormous system requirements (the mark of poor programming IMHO). While some of the "unique" units are...interesting, I consider them crass commentary on some of the darker element of American society and history (ex Televangelist, Subneural Ad, Lawyer, Slaver). It left me with the same feeling of reading Fahrenheit 451 or 1984. On the plus side, it is a very different game due to the new units and overall feel, and you get to build things in space.
Note, however, I was turned off immediately and never really gave the game a fair try. Considering the hours that it takes to really get good at any game, I'd rather spend my time on...well, about anything else. Based on MarkG's recent Column, I assume that the PC CtP-2 was an improvement over the original. I'll just wait and hope for a Mac port of Civ3.
