Right, the way I see it is the best way for this game to work is for it to be real time in a similar way to Age of Empires (bear with me)

At the start of the game you would choose your species - there would be a few like T-Rex, Diplodicus (sp?) etc - and each would have different attributes.

You would control a herd of your chosen species through various scenerios (like in an Age of Empires campaign), starting with two dinos which form the start of your herd.

Basic structures could be built (animal structures egg like a nest or breedign ground - no technology)

Scenerio objectives could be to raise the population of your herd to a certain number or repulse an attack by or kill another herd of dinosaurs

I'm sure anyone who's played AOE can think of more bits that could be used.
Anyway think about it - I think it's a great idea.

Here ideas that i've been developing. .

Has anyone here ever played Shinjin the ruler? it was an old strategy game for nintendo, it probably had a very small following, but i really loved it. Anyhow, i think the dino game could work great if done along those lines. It had two seperate parts to the game, one was the main turn phase, you would allocate resources, taxes, food, etc, things like that, there was a bit of diplomacy, recruiting army, purchasing weaponds, etc. . there were also battle phases where you used your army in attacking other territories. . the ultimate goal of controlling ALL the territories. Both parts of the game were turn based. . it was a VERY hard, and very slow game, but incredibly rich in stragety, even with the limited capabilities of the nintendo. TO the developers, if you can get ahold of this game to see what i mean, please do. . i think this format would work great for dinos. .

Great game that's for sure. KOEI later made the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, and a few Ghenghis Khan and Norobunga's Ambition games, maybe 2-3 of each. The 3kingdoms series is up to like six but only the first four will ever be in english. I consider number two to be the best by far, 3 and 4 were too slow paced. You can get them free and play them with a super nintendo emulator.
