Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

"Evolution" idea- are yo advocating pure natural selection with no player input at all? Where is the fun in that? I personally am for a more user-directed approach, maybe with selective breeding as one factor.

"Buildings" idea- Since when do dinosaurs live in huts? Are you sure there will be buildings? Still, the idea of environmentally dependant nesting sites and so on is a sound one, which would add some flair to the program.

Got spare money?

Evolution

"Dinosaurs should evolve do to their surroundings."

EX: Dinosaurs in the Desert should have Long Slender Legs, Move Fast, and Have Something on their Bodies to Cool them Down like Large Ears. Also they should be able to Store Water.

"Dinosaurs should evolve do to their surroundings."
Did you read this part, I am not choosing Dinosaurs to evolve and this is my list I created I would glady accept your ideas if you have any.

Yes, I did read that part. What I'm saying is, instead of just purely basing it on environmental adaptations, should the player have some sort of choice when it comes to evolution? Or should it be governed by natural selection, like in real life? I mean, the system you suggest is a bit Lamarckian in nature- acquired characteristics are passed on to future generations, and a dinosaur "evolves" during it's lifetime. Do you think this would be viable? It's a pretty inaccurate model of how evolution actually works.

However, should we have purely Darwinian evolution, with a large amount of random "negative" mutations for every "positive" mutation? I wonder if it would be fun to play. The best thing would probably be to build on the Darwinian (or Neo-Darwinian) model of evolution, and from there add some sort of player interaction- The player choses breeding pairs (or alpha parents, or something like that).

---

On the second question, compiling a list of ideas, I suggest you look at the archives or backwards in this forum. When we have more info, more people will come here and we can start discussing a real list... Good Luck!

I was basing it on Darwinism, I just read a book on Charles Darwin and it was very interesting to me. Selecting dinosaurs to breed like artifical selection where only good traits in parents are passed to offspring.
