Why we should buy CtP2 Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Some people are critical that it uses the same gaming technology as CtP1. IIRC that wasn't the problem with CtP. The engine is fantastic! So why throw awayn a good engine and make a new one if the original one is good enough? The Graphics and Sound were awesome and the new ideas and concepts were extremely innovative. Activision didn't want to make just another clone of Civ2, and they succeeded in that. There were a few major problems, but I have faith that Activision has ironed these out with CtP2.
Good onya Activision! Keep it up!
Oh, one question, will you be releasing any expansion packs for CtP2? Say, a scenario pack?

Personally? I'm buying CtP2 and Civ3.

Say, you just know how to pour salt in the provoberial open wound, don't you? Activision's total lack of ethics in the way they dealt with us the first time around is the real sore spot with this whole thing. I'll grant you that CTP2 appears to have enough changes that it deserves to be marketed as a new game. The new graphics appear marginally crisper, not that this will have any effect on my decision to purchase or not purchase CTP2. What I want to know is Where is the 1.3 patch for Civilization:Called to Power? And what guarantee do I have as a consumer that you (Activision) won't release yet another half finished game and then run off to scam someone else without finishing it?

In the U.S. we have a saying, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on ME!" So if the rest of you sheeple want to bleat your way to the head of the line so you can be fleeced again, please, be my guest!

After laughing at the typically Texan quote in your sig, I gave your post a good read. Would you like to know something? I really don't have any idea why people hated CtP1 in the first placed. Me? I loved it!
But there WERE some problems which are evidently fixed.

quote:

I'll grant you that CTP2 appears to have enough changes that it deserves to be marketed as a new game.

Yes, there have been great changes and reforms to the games as far as I have seen. Just because it basically looks the same doesn't mean they haven't improved things behind the scenes. The Graphics are perfect as they are anyway!

quote:

What I want to know is Where is the 1.3 patch for Civilization:Called to Power?

It's about money, mate. They thought "Why give them a patch with minor improvements for free, when we can do a major overhaul, call it CtP2, and make some more money! I have no problem with that because it means more money for them to make better games.

quote:

And what guarantee do I have as a consumer that you (Activision) won't release yet another half finished game and then run off to scam someone else without finishing it?

The Guarantee is that they know that we Civvers aren't going to be sucked in straight away again. It would be smart of them to release the demo before the official release in order to quell people's doubts.

Activision lost all credibility when they announced version 1.3 of CtP would be a new game (and they did this pretty early, before they announced the first patch even).

and you're grabbing pretty low with quotes like "the typically Texan quote in your sig"...

does this really have to come to personal attacks?

"It would be smart of them to release the demo before the official release in order to quell people's doubts."

Not really... I mean they've already found willing buyers for their product. I suspect a demo would only confirm my unwillingness to buy the product.

I don't have to stress how foolish it is to run out and spend their on a glory patch (I've seen Platinum and Gold editions of games selling with more added features). The at least shrewd thing to do is to wait for reviews (and not Apolyton [ie Markos] reviews... those are disgustingly pro-Activision).

and dont worry about looking out for them, you're going to learn about ALL the reviews, good and bad, on the Apolyton news pages!

in a recent poll we had here, 14% said they would wait first for our review of the game before deciding to buy it or not. i guess this doesnt tell you a thing....

But was that a poll of people who cruise the site or people who are likely to buy a game (not necessarily ctp2) in the next two months?

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

quit yer bickering. Buy the damn game, if it sucks return it claiming your CD ROM isn't fast enough to play it or something. That's what I did with CTP, bought it from compusa, tried it, it sucked, returned it got my 30 bucks back. I'll do the same with CTP2, buy it, try it, like it or hate it(prob like it I think they will do good this time), return it or keep it.

Don't get so angry geez be at peace with ones self. It's karma man!

Suffering from ads?

If CTP2 crashes only half as much as CTP1, then I will buy it. I couldn't believe last night how many times CTP1 crashed on me, with the 1.2 patch installed. 2 games, I was making good 'comebacks' when the AI realised that it was going to take yet another beating, and threw me out.

And public works, don't even try to help your cities with decent PW improvements late in the game. I mean, a PII 300MHz , 128 RAM should be able to compute 150 cities' need for PW...

No, don't buy it! As soon as CTP II hits the shelves and is found to be as defective as the original CTP our friends at Activision will announce that they're developing a patch to fix the defects. You'll wait for the patch, which won't do the job anyway, but by the time you've gotten the patch and tried it the grace period to return the game wil have passed, and you'll be stuck.

The safe thing to do is to wait...preferrably until CTP II is safely out of production and off the shelves.

How about this...Activision should make a promise to all purchasers that they will refund the price of purchase of CTP II for a period up to 6 weeks after the posting of the last patch they make for the game. That would give all purchasers, who presumably bought the game because they really wanted to be able to play it, a chance to try the patches without forever losing their money. Wouldn't that be fair? How cold do you think itt will have to get in the Netherworld before Activision does the fair thing?

Alternatively, when you bring your copy of CTP II home and slip the CD into your CDROM drive, if that sucker won't install or play, don't even think about waiting for a patch or for help from Activision's technical support. Put it back in the box, take the box back to the store, get your money back and don't look back.

That is the advice of experience.
