System requirements? Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Just curious what the system requirements and recommendations will be for CTP2. Anyone know or know where I can find them?

Oooh. Any higher and I might be screwed. CTP2 could very quickly become more expensive for me. It'll need to be worth it.

Inflate your Upload Space

OK, that sounds fine as long as the RAM requirements don't get too high because I only have 64 megs.

I'm just surprised that more people aren't as excited as I am for this game to come out... I mean, the first game had some serious flaws but I think it had some great features too (like the trade goods, public works system, stacked combat, etc). And now it looks as if the most serious flaws have been fixed for CTP2, and the interface is looking like the nicest thing yet for a civ-type game. I guess I'm not too sore at Activision because I got the game long after the mod-makers had fixed the game's flaws.

Alpha Centauri has long since been retired to somewhere on the bottom of my closet, simply because I got tired of one thing: TERRAFORMING. CTP2 looks like a step in the right direction in every way possible.

i am kinda curious, and please dont take this the wrong way, becuae i dont mean to sound harsh, but it is a question that i have wondered for a while, here and elsewhere...
how can someone who uses thier computer(s) for games only have 64mb ram? and a ~250Mhz processor? as a gamer, why dont people keep their systems up to date? peice by peice if to expensive to do at once? i am curious, because as a gamer, i (and many others i know who use their systems for gaming too) go nuts as soon as a game comes out that has min sys req that match, or are close to my system status. i am always updating to stay ahead.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

CTP2 will probably require 64MB minimum -- that means BARE MINIMUM == run at 3fps.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Nemo:

I really am not qualified to answer that question, because I'm not a "gamer." I used to be long ago but now I no longer have the time. My computer is used mostly to go online and manage my website (and a million other things I do online), for word processing, and for an occasional civ-type game. So I see little need to upgrade my system, but I used to upgrade things back when I played more games. (my computer now is 533 MHz, 64 megs RAM, 20 gig hard drive, so not exactly slow).

If CTP2 requires more than 64 MB of RAM to run nicely, then I would consider putting another 64 MB in, just because it is so easy to do.

Suffering from ads?

my guess for this is
CPU speed 450 or above
128 RAM
16 video RAM
to play a decent game.

I only really run turn based games or abandonware.

These computer spec threads are getting me depressed.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH... *looks for second time* BWAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... no...seriously what is the min system requirements? I was playing CTP on a P2 233MHZ machine with 64 Megs ram last year and it was virtually unplayable somewhere around the middle to late ages. Things became a whole lot better when I finally got an extra 64 megs ram.

Game companies gotta be more realistic about system requirements. Min system requirements should mean it will run and be playable not it will just run it.

Monkey,

I've played CtP on P200, 32MB (I still do, only now I have an extra 32 MB) and it isn't all *that* slow, just don't try to play with 32 civs on a gigantic map. Normal map size and 5 civs works very nicely throughout the game. Only the space layer makes things really slow, but that's the same for everyone and that's why they threw it out for the sequel.

Well, I don't use my computer for games only, but games is one of my primary activities. Some people just don't have the money. I mean, after paying my rent, phone bills (due to my Internet and Apolyton addiction), schoolbooks and tuition fees, I barely have enough money for food & clothes and stuff, let alone a new processor or more memory.
(That's one of the reasons why I enjoy playing classics like Lemmings & Prince so much )

Got spare money?

My computer is P-2 300 Mhz with 48 MB RAM. Does that mean that CTP-2 absolutely won't run on it or just that it will be slow?

Anyway to answer Nemo's question , I am far from being a hard-core gamer. I usually stick to strategy games most of which run fine on my PC. But it appears that the new strategy games have ramped up the minimum requirements a notch or two. If there is a string of outstanding strategy titles which I can't play I would consider buying a better PC. Otherwise I will stick to the titles I have which should last me quite a while given the limited amounts of gaming time I have.

I would say you can run small games just fine. If you want something more involved your hard drive will be used a lot to make up for lack of memory - and this takes up time. The game would speed up significantly with just a little extra RAM.
