Increase Your PM Length

Lets hope some Activision staff member answeres this one. I wouldnt mind an upgrade from 500 turns to 800 turns. 1100 turns seems unlikely, but who knows? (By the way; did CTP have 500 or 350 turns?).

500 turns in CTP-2 is perfectly acceptable, but the trade-off is that one have to concentrate ones efforts on a single end-game climax.
With more turns available, theres more time over for rise-and-fall (and rise again) of empires.

Strange though, that non else of all the magazine/ gamesite prewievs is mention it. After all; if its true, its a rather significant change.

Its probably not correct, but when again....

The number of turns has been increased, the exact number is based upon your difficulty level. It's somewhere between 800 and 1000 turns.

800-1100 turns!!!! I thought this had to be a misprint at first, but apparently its true. Should make for an incredible game.

I must say that im positively surprised. Not only have they axed year 2300-3000 of made-up hard-to-relate-to future technologies and skipped the whole silly cities-floating-around-the-stratosphere idea (good!). They had also added several hundreds of new game-turns, which should make CTP-2 a much more fleshy and sturdy game-experience then CTP ever was.
Because there is so many new turns, i guess im going to spend lots of time in the 2000-2300 era as well.

What about the tech-tree? Are they gonna keep the number of techs and just stretch them out? Or have they added (not just replaced) lots of new ones? I want an exact number, please!

Ps: i was a former CTP-hater, but the more i read about new CTP-2 features (like increased number of game-turns, the implementation of anti-ICS), the more convinced i am about give the Activision-team another try with CTP-2.

wow it really is true!
i cant possibly imagine how big the changes are due to that. i can imagine that lots of extra play balancing is going to be needed...

Ralf, about 30% of the units are new, the same with wonders. i gues you can presume a similar amount for techs... Pyaray?

Put an end to popups!

Pyaray: So does this mean that tech increases will be slower as well? If so, that would be great. My biggest complaint about Civ games thus far is how fast one technology becomes antiquated in only a few turns because of ridiculous tech gains... I would hope that any given advance would have a significant amount of time from which to benefit.

Suffering from ads?

I've now heard 1 thing that I didn't like...8 Civs!?!? and now something that has made me very happy, finally a Civ type game that is long enough!

Put the # of civs aspect as first thing on the list for CTP III, ok?

Yeah I am not sure why everyone is so thrilled about a game that lasts 1000 turns. I thought both SMAC and Civ2 with about 300 turns tend to drag in the latter stages of the game. I can barely imagine what playing 1000 turns would be like. Does this mean that a typical CTP-2 game will last 4-5 times a typical Civ2 or SMAC game. While I enjoy my TBS gaming I don't necessarily want to spend 40-50 hours per game.

I second Kautilya's point. Is a longer game a good thing? As it is, I don't get to play much, and it takes months to finish a single game. Imagine what will happen with 800-1000 turns! It might even take a year!

I guess only those players who go for a straight military victory won't be much affected by this.

Tired of ads?

Its not the number of turns that is important, it is the content of those turns and the time each one takes to complete which counts. If nations stay peaceful and stable then 100 turns can pass quite fast, particularly with the PW system removing the need for ordering about a horde of settler/engineers. If the AI nations invade you with an army or stealth units (or you need to manage your own to stay competitive) each turn then the repetition will quickly become tedious.

I, personally, like the idea of having a longer game, especially if it increases the depth of game play in each "age", instead of having only 2 eras to have extended play in (ancient/midieval and Modern)..

a Couple of questions

1) how fast does time move in each era?
2) can you reset time to a shorter span for a faster game
2a) can you by extention reset the clock to a monthly-weekly-dayly seting for individual Scenarios?(ie portraying WW2)

A couple of answers.

Between 1 and 25 years, depending on skill level and era. More in the early eras, less in the later eras.

If you're comfortable changing the data files, it's all in there. But that will change the balance of the game and technology.

Yes.

Hmmm. If the extended turns allow more time for each technology development to actually be fully exploited, then this would be a positive development indeed.
