Oohkay.. Now its 2640 BC on my second game.. I managed to get overrun by barbarians shorty after my last message..
Greeks again.. on easy.. Explored my whole continent. Nice glaciers on it.. never run out of water..
I now need ships to explore furthur, atleast I can see land. Four cities.. all small still.. I think I'm not giong to be doing great in this game either.

Just ran into a lovely little bug.. hit "l" for an assumed sentry to get on a boat and some cursor came up, I clicked on the unit and the game bombed out to windows.

Ended up getting blasted on my second game too..
sigh.. the problems with a small starting landmass..
Third game is going good though...
410 BC now..
Plenty of cities.. Working my way through the tech tree.
My only gripe is that the AI continually wanders through my territory. I'm not ready for war and they don't seem to be accepting bribes.
and I still dislike public works, for the simple reason I do better with tons and tons of settlers/formers running around, and you can automate them so you don't forget and end up stockpiling thousands of PW's
I'll post another update in a bit

Now 560 AD...
Building up a nice force to kick the Americans off my continent, then take the war home to them.
Something else thats been bugging me is that units do not auto-select, even though I have it set like that in the options.
I'm upto 13 cities and Athens has grown to size 20. Its radius is indeed like predicted, if it wasn't squished in by other cities

I think the AI is finally warming up to the fact if they don't like me they're going to get their rear ends kicked. I finally got France to agree to a no-tresspassing arrangement(i think.. I told them to get their units out of my territory)
I'll post again after I rid my continent of the Americans

995 AD now.. I captured the two american cities that were closest to me. Theres a couple more half way across my continent, but they arn't near a city so I didn't really care about those.
I paid em for a cease-fire.. 10k got it.. I don't really use my gold so its not a biggie for me.
Just got machine gunners too.. well..
thats it for now..

Well.. been doing okay.. just teching for now..
Turned down my public works ratio as it was just strangling my production(40% and i still spent em all)
Not much to tell really..
The games really bogging down on my machine(p2/350 64 megs of ram and a freshly re-imaged HD) It runs fine during my turns but the AI is killing it.

Turning off other programs on your computer tends to help. I use startup cop myself, it tends to help a bit.

Yatermie, when you say that the game is 'bogging down' on your machine do you mean that the calculations for the AI's turn(s) is taking a long time? Or do you mean that there is a noticable slow-down in scrolling, screen refresh, unit/interface responsiveness, etc? Answering this would be helpful to me, in particular, and I'm sure others as well.

No problems as far as slowdown goes here. I have animating everything on. I run in 1600 x 1280 32 bit color.
My specs are PIII 650 w/ 256 megs of ram, 384 meg virtual swap disk. Windows 2000 using GForce DDR 32 meg

cool Mad-Kat
I've a classic 850 Athlon with 256 RAM running at 133mhz on Win98SE (unspecified swap-file size) with a GeForce DDR. Next week or the week after I should be ordering a 64MB Prophet Ultra (GeForce 2 GTS), although not really for CTP purposes.
heh
I don't suspect that will improve 2-D performance (it might help refresh rate at higher resolutions), but I can't NOT have it. Mainly for Q3 usage, really.

I mean the AI is slow. I ended my last turn and it only finished after I had jumped on the other comp, loaded IE, went to the forums, read the newest messages in this thread and had time to write to "slow".
must be taking 20-30 seconds a pop. I'm thinking of installing on the good comp actually. I'm not used to having to run a TBS on this one.

I havent got the game yet but my suggestions are based on what I know about CTP. Since CTP2 uses almost the exact engine as CTP1 one would assume memory usage and handling would be similar. When I first got CTP1 it was impossible playing it, turns would just take forever at the later parts of the game. When I upgraded my memory to 128 Mb the game ran fine. I have a P2 233Mhz computer. I would suggest getting more ram, 64 just isn't enough.
