Building in the north Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

I'm playing on the world map as the Mongolians. I spaced out my cities well so that they wouldn't overlap in the later stages of the game. With so many other civilisations in Asia and Europe I quickly ran out of space. I had only 5 cities after I finished expanding by settlers. I took a city that was held by barbarians and I put one over on the west coast of North America. The Americans and Mexicans are smashing each up over there so it's not a good place to settle. Then I sent a couple of settlers up north to build on the tundra and ice. One of the towns is on the ocean so I can build nets and get some growth. The other town is on the tundra and I can't build farms or mines or anything. I don't think terraforming is possible so I'm kind of stuck with a size one city. Does anyone have any ideas for building up a city in the north? I don't expect it to get very big but I'd like it to grow a bit.
Thanks

Hey, you could just turn farmers on and that's all! I think city won't grow to metropolis (read: very large), but it should be enough for your city to grow beyond population 1.

P.S.: Now we know, why Mongolians are so few.

I put farmers on my northern cities. makes them grow abit but wished i put them by the ocean for nets improvement. have to keep that in mind next time. I believe you can terraform tundra when you hit the proper tech.

I am brain dead and cant remeber what tech it is but go to the great library and check it out there. that is where I read it.

Suffering from ads?

Thanks for the advice. After I wrote the post I remembered the tag for specialists so I checked it out. I gave the cities one farmer each and the "your people will starve" message didn't appear any more. The city next to the ocean had nets so there was no problem in the first place. The city on the tundra is doing well and is up to size 3 now. I checked the tech tree and it's advanced composites you need to terraform tundra. Well, that's a long way away so I'll just hope that one farmer doesn't mind a lot of overtime.

Got spare money?

Thanks for your replies. After I posted I started playing again and it occurred to me that the 'specialists' tag wasn't there just for good looks. I made one farmer specialist and my problems were over. My tundra city is at size 3 now and the glacier city is at 5. The glacier city is bigger because it's next to the ocean. I checked the tech tree yesterday and it turns out I need Advanced Composites to terraform tundra. That's a long way away so I hope that farmer doesn't mind working some overtime.
