Unable to research technologies?

I tried playing a game where I enabled to cheat option, gave my self several cities a "wee bit 'o gold & PW"..and a few advances.

The problem is I get to a certain point and can no longer research anything!

I usually give myself just 6 advances to start out with, but this has caused my games to stop researching after a certain point, such as nothing past renaissance period?????

Any/all help would be greatly appreciated!
