CD required in drive? Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

A question: is it possible to install AC in such a way that the CD is not required in the drive?
Before a flame war begins, let me state emphatically that I PAID FOR and OWN SMAC and (as of today!) SMACX.
Many games today (Q3A for ex.) can be installed in such a way that the CD is not required. Is this possible for SMAC?
Another question: I also bought a PC copy of the game before the Mac version was available. (That's right, I have *two* copies.) It offered an option for "large install" to minmize disk access. When I installed my Mac copy I saw no such option. Did I miss something?

You might try making a disk image. I haven't tried it, but it should work. It appears that the installer only installs some of what is on the CD. You might try copying over manually whatever else is on the CD and not on your harddrive.
