	new multiplayer game? Got spare money?

For all of you who have reached a stage of the game where the winner is all ready apparent, or if the game has simply bogged down. how about playing the new guy?

I'd be happy to join a game.
I'm new to this sort of play -- but I'm smart, quick to learn, and have spent, in toto, about a year of my life playing SMAC and SMAX. How does this sort of multiplayer game work? Is it turn-based by email?

Thanks much -- I know, nobody likes a newbie, but trust me... a little guidance would go a LONG way, in this case...

this would be a PBEM game. However, this is also my first multiplayer game, so I am not the MOST qualified person to ask guidance from.

It is turn-based. You take your turn and e-mail it to the next player. Someone needs to set it up, so typically we have been choosing faction prefernces here (and settings) and the one person sets it up and mails it to the first player. It seems to be a good thing if people try to post in this thread when they send the turn to the next player as well as which turn # it was because then people can see when problems occur. If you are going to play SMAC only (no Alien X-fire) don't open the file with SMAC-AX (else the file gets converted somehow to AX).

Thanks for the guidance, Admiral and Flomper.
Please count me in, Admiral, assuming we get enough players -- I prefer the SMAX factions, but if this is a SMAC-only game, I'd be happy to be the Hive or the University. Do you (Admiral) or does Rue have any faction preference? And do we have a volunteer -- hopefully someone who's done this sort of thing before -- to set-up?

Otherwise -- regarding the rules -- everything looks fine to me, Admiral; I fully support Directed Research and Thinker, and using the Map of Chiron (although I've kind of memorized it by now) would be okay.

Admiral and Rue:

Sorry it's taken me so long to play a first turn; I just got back from the East Coast, and I wasn't expecting the message and attachment (although they were, or course, a pleasant surprise).

It seems as though the game believes we're only two-player - as, after my (University) turn, it indicates that the next turn belongs to the Hive. Shouldn't it be Rue's - i.e., the Spartans' - turn?

Let me know if you think something's wrong in set-up, Admiral, or if I'm merely daft. *grin*

I'd be up for a four-person game - tho' I already forwarded the turn to Rue, and it looks like Rue's forwarded it to you, Admiral. But the game's just begun, and this would be the best time to add a new player. Which faction ya want, Henrik?

Well since all my favourite factions are allready taken I think I will play as the UN, if thats ok.

In civ 2 pbem you play your turn and save it whitout hitting end turn and then you save as a multiplayer game.
Is this how you do it here as well?

That's what happens if you wait until turn one to join.

In Alpha Centauri you hit end turn, a box pops up asking you to supply the password for the next player, and you hit save and exit.

We Spartans like the adjective maniac. Regarding our faux pas, on the other hand, we were unaware that a state of peace already existed which reqired keeping. Our error entirely, mea culpa.
