Italian News: The Republic
New Elections
The last Government eliminated all minor parties with little or practically no support from the population from the Congress to stablize the Governments. The new President was voted by an overwhelming victory because of all of the divided smaller parties in chaotic Italian politics. The victory is shown below with 58% turnout:
Centre-Right Republican Party - 55.6%
Centre-Left Venetian Party - 22.1%
Centre Milan Party - 16%
Communist Party - 4%
Far-Right Italian Freedom Party - 2%
Italian Government To Modernize the South
After desperate reforms were initated by previous governments to improve coniditons of the south, which includes Sicily... living conditions lag behind the more prosperous north. The Government slated out a plan to reform the Commerical sector of the north and Bring HI-tech sectors to the region. This may increase the budget of the police force to bring a end to mob rule... the police may be militarized if any shootings occur in the southern region because of these new reforms to replace the old industry of the south. The Italian Government also set out to improve the turism industry which mainly is in the North as well.
Italy extends hand out to struggling economies
As the President Giancarlo Carini made a speech today, his adminstration summarized that he would be giving aide to nations that need it. African nations especially. He also specifically said that he would open ties with Abyssinia that were severely broken after the Italian Fascist government invaded Abyssinia in WWII. The Italian Government said he would be more than grateful to send aide to the nation to lift it out of third world status that could bring progress to the rest of the region as well.
Italian Officials Arrests 2
In a small town in Sicily, the Italian Federal Police and Army have arrested two men in conspiracy with the attempt to assissinate the previous president Moantorttio which failed. The Police have hold the two in questioning and will contiune to do so until the Judge and the Jury makes a decision.
Italy Extends Help to Greece

Italian Economy Increases (!) this year in Growth
The Italian Economy has sustained a goal to reach the economic growth rate of 3% this year, after the growth rate was a mere 1.7% last year. This unemployment has dropped 1.6% this year to 10.8% and is still high in South Areas. As soon as the Hi Tech investment gets larger in Southern regions, the unemployment will dip further. The industrial production growth rate has rose to 4.5% this year, from 2% last year. This has marked the unprecendendent turn in the 2nd/3rd largest economy in Europe (After Germany and Ties with France) GDP wise. The GDP Per Captia is the same as the rest of Europe being at $23,500. The GDP has reached $1.3 Trillion and is growing with modest gains.
Italian Military Gets Extension
The Italian Military has reached an extension in funding making the military budget absorb nearly 3.3% to train its forces better for combat situation. This is a 1% rise, and Professional Soliders now number 120,000 of the 165,600... from the 30,000 4 years ago. Since Italy has started to feel instablitity close to itself, and from its EU neighbors the Government has requested the general extension. This will leave room to request 350 more Ariete Tanks (Italian Design) in addition to the 200 Being built. This will increase the Army to 180,000 and will take 6 months.

State of the Union
I am glad to see all of you Italians attend this great event today. This event will be to discuss the problems our great country faces and the resolution to the problems that my government adminstration has presented to you. My Government has slated out an ambitious economic and government programme that will reduce the government size to make it more efficent. The economy will be more of a free market system since the Government still controls several sectors of the economy. These sectors, which include the gas, electricity and mining will be sold off to private interest. The private sector are our deepest concerns and should get the greatest attention in our country. Then we will reduce the deficit by reducing taxes, inturn increasing productivity, so that will make more money for the country. The economy at european standards, but still needs working on, so far progress has been substantial since the Taiwanese High Tech sector has moved in Southern Italy. The living conditions of Southern Italy still lag far behind Northern Italy and will be improved from greater foreign investment my adminstration will encourage. This will cause Italy to be more efficent in daily economic trading and in world affairs. The Military is at an adequate level, and spending has been increased to defend our nation from attacks and instablitity that has been occuring in the last few months throughout Europe. The Military will be expanded at regular pace with our economy and no over extensions will ever occur unless we go to war. But the call for war should be less then expected. The military has been increasing with the economy, but has been increased substantially from 1.9% to 2.5% in the past few months... 2.5% is the new figure and the spending will remain that way. Our Political system will be speeded up, and several political parties with little or no representation will be suspended from the Congress so that larger political parties can take their place. This makes our political system more effective and efficent. My months in office have been great ones with the joy of ruling a people who can pull through recessions without widespread problems, but let those recessions be no more with my presidency and my legacy.
Italian Government Issues Sanctions
The Italian Government has ordered immediate Sanctions against Turkey, the hostile neighbor whom has blocked off shipping to the Black Sea to assist Russia and Siberia, whom has posed serious economic disastor in the Asian and European continent. These sanctions have been called up by the Congress as follows by referembum:

OOC: GC, I hate to break it to you, but the military isn't poorly maintained. Until a few months ago(game time), it was being maintained by Russia. Even now, it's just fine, as usually in a revolution the military gets most of the revolting government's money. Not to mention that F-104's are crap, and Tornadoes are quickly becoming obsolete.
Now, let's take a look at you. You're designing a new tank when you've just finished the Ariete, and you're designing a new fighter when you've just finished one of the most advanced in the world. Yeah, smart....

There is no "mass famine" in Abyssinia, that was over a decade ago, yes some people in my nation do go hungry, but under my leadership hunger in Abyssinia will be a thing of the past.
My nation has fertile lands and great agricultural potential. If you truly want to give aid, then Italy shall send farm equipment and instructors in the use of such machines to help us develop our large tracts of unexploited land. In return, you would gain a valuable trading partner if you choose to set up buisnesses in my nation.

OOC - Alright....as a MODERATOR...I feel that I must take the piss out of Gian's military projects.
1. No Modern MBT that I know of has 135mm main gun. That would require a radical redesign of the ENTIRE tank, as well as vastly upgraded electronics and components. In short...that's not going to happen in 11 months, or for 6 Billion USD.
2. How is this Armour better? IIRC, the Ariete uses Second-Generation Chobham, and hell, nobody knows what's in that thing other than ceramics and a bunch of composites. You'll have to be a bit more specific than, "uhhh....its better."
3. Now...how is a 135mm projectile going to be lighter than a 120mm? With the current ordinance that I'm aware of; it's not going to be...BTW, is there even ordinace for 135mm? That would require new projectile designs and a new main gun design...once again: not going to happen in 11 months or for 6 Billion USD.
4. AKAIK, Italy doesn't have the capacity to build 350 tanks of one type per year...they may after the years it takes you to research and build the thing, but not at the present moment.
5. The Eurofighter is what people call a MULTI-ROLE aircraft. It can switch from Air-to-Air to Air-to-Ground with the replacement of a single component. There's no need to even have one.
6. But at the same time...I don't care. Just make the build times more realistic for the extremem changes you plan on making.
