I've been watching the Alternative Civs news, and notices that there's hasn't been anything about the new version of Great Nations (6.1.1) that came out last week. They have also updated their website at http://gn.gameshock.com/devnews/.

I don't think they have implemented enemy AI yet, so if you play singleplayer you will be all alone.
