This is a game summary by my WM Turkey. Hhe was France, I was Germany, "the evil" Grant Flowers (26th ranked judge player) was Russia, and a former world champ was in Britian so I had a lot of fun just staying alive
Title: Game Summary (or when did I lose my cajones?)
Thanks to everyone who showed up. I think the consensus was that this was
a wonderfully fluid game up final alliances solidified in 1907.
An early juggernaut led to the formation of an EFG triple loosely
negotiating with Austria and Italy. The triple took Sweden and St.
Petersburg in 1902 effectively destroying the juggernaut.
Concessions were made and the alliance structure shifted. Russia allied
with Austria against Turkey. Germany helped Russia regain his strength in
the North to England's detriment. The general consensus was that England,
an ex-world champion, was very dangerous. (And he didn't brag about how
good he was!)
Austria and Russia turned on Turkey. Germany and France entered English
territory. Alliances shifted so much over the next couple of years that,
as France, I made agreements with and concessions to every other country
(except the decimated Turkey.) The same could be said of everyone else
except Italy who was trying to exact revenge upon Austria for an
unwarranted (?), early stab and Turkey who was stomped into his corner.
Turkey was eliminated in 1905 and Italy in 1906. The game ended with
England, Germany, and Russia allied against Austria and France. EGR was
quickly making in-roads into France and Austria was making tactical inroads
through Turkey. We were all pretty tired so we called the game as an
un-decided five way draw.
Again, thanks to everyone for coming. Special Kudos to Dave Boshko who
traveled from Connecticut. This was his first face-to-face game and the
consensus was that we should expect good things from this young player.
Also, thanks for the wonderful learning experience. With players of the
NYC quality, you learn from your mistakes very quickly. :-) The ending
position will be posted to r.g.d. later today so that the public forum can
kibitz over who would have won.
