Well, things are so far so good for me. I'm playing Austria-Hungary next to Edi Birsan, the guy who invented the Lepanto. Edi's a good player, and initially I was a bit intimidated by this, but we've hit it off well. Helping things a bit is the fact that both France and Turkey are noticibly very weak players. Italy went into Piedmont both in the Spring and Fall 1901 turns, getting bounced the first time, and succeeding on the second attempt. His other army is now in Rome, and his fleet is in Tunis. He's reportedly building F Naples, which is all fine by me.
Russia on the other hand "misordered" his support of my attack on Bulgaria, which if succesful would have given me three builds in 1901. But at the same time Turkey, who went to Con with his fleet in the Spring, sent his navy to the Black Sea in the Fall. So my fears of an R/T are somewhat diminished. Russia got bounced out of Sweden by Germany on the Kaiser's path to a three build 1901. So Russia is in the pain locker now, and I'm hoping to exploit the favor he owes me now.
Good fisrt year, but I'm not all that keen on where it's headed. Edi is pressuring me to attack Germany while he hits France and we pick the bones of Turkey. But Russia's opening has me worried about getting too drawn out. And what is Italy really up to? Turkey's already going to be pissed at me for attacking Bulgaria, though he doesn't write at all... Germany's the big guy on the block. I don't really want a war with both right now. So 1902 will tell the tale of my long term success or failure in this game.
