Yeah, there are only a dozen (?) or so people here, but thousands at the official forums.

Got spare money?

Damn you! Damn all of you!

Well, it is hard, Mark, when there is no news. A fan site survives (like Apolyton for Civ) when they fan site can bring fresh new news, etc.

But this is a CIV site and not an EU site...

I agree, I really only came here to mention how great EU was because I knew it would appeal to a significant proportion of Apolytoners. We simply cannot offer the same level of discussion and good advice here as is available at the main site (well, not without cutting and pasting lots of posts!)

Well, I myself am not realy impressed with EU. My roommate and I bought two copies of the game so we can play on our LAN. We played one weekend of it and haven't played it since. Don't get me wrong, EU is a good game, but it is definately NOT a civilization game. We just lost interest in it after only one weekend of playing. EU just doesn't hold the same interest as a "Civilization" game.

I will agree with Wittlich. EU is quite nice but won't keep me in interest for too long. Civ games are far better in my opinion.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, EU is the best game out there right now and it'll take a masterful Civ3 to change that.

I spent many, many hours on Civ, more than on any other game, but I have to agree with Kyle.

EU missed the mark in a lot of areas, but overall is the best strategy game I've seen.

Maybe if Civ III could improve the diplomacy a lot and have 100+ countries to play and improve the combat procedures, then I will be interested. The biggest advantage that the Civ games have is the buildup of the cities provides tremendous ownership feelings.

EU hasn't lasted as long as Civ2 did for me, but it is not hard for me to say that it is without a doubt the best strategy game NOT made by Sid Meier . The only games that is better (strategy games) is Civ2 and SMAC is neck and neck with EU.

Got spare money?

Well, I'm the one who posted elsewhere on this forum re "Help me decide! EU or SMAC?" -- and I ended up getting EU as a birthday gift, mainly by default 'cos I couldn't locate the SMAC Planetary pack anywhere here in the UK. And let me say at once that I'm absolutely dazzled by EU!! It's a really GREAT game, I've been playing it in every available moment ever since I got it. I wouldn't yet go so far as to say that it outshines Civ, but it comes a VERY close second for me. The richness and depth of the diplomacy, trade and exploration models definitely put Civ2 in the shade. I can only hope Civ3 does half as well in those areas... But being limited to 300 years with a fixed map and fixed 'civ' locations means it does lack the majestic sweep of history and the endless variety of Civ. So I've no doubt it'll take a back seat for me when Civ3 appears!

(And BTW, to respond to MarkG's original question, yes, I too have found the official Paradox EU forums much wider in scope and more helpful than this one. But I want to echo Jeje2: Please don't close this forum down! I'm another who would never have discovered EU but for this forum...)

Though I like the Civilization series better than EU ... I will admit this:

The opening Movie/Sound Track of EU is HOT! But then again, I am a serious TECHNO Fanatic through and through! The opening sound track is something that would go well at any Discotek/Nightclub!

So I give the opening Sound Track/Movie two-thumbs up!

But that is as far as my "kudos" go, sorry all.

PS: Ilkuul is correct, I would have never bought EU if it were not for this Apolyton Forum. Even though I was not impressed with EU (except for the B**CH'IN Soundtrack), I would have never discovered Earth 2025 nor Trade Wars 2002 - both of which have kept my attention - and they're both "freeware" !!!
