Since a few people seem to be getting frustrated with the TradeWars game, I figured I would start a topic holding some tips for newbies to "level the field". MarkG posted 7 good ideas for new players in another post; MarkG, can you repost them here?
I would like to add that, when stopping for the night you will be at your most vulnerable. When you notice your number of turns remaining getting low (press "I" to see the number of turns), move to a safe sector. What's a safe sector, you ask? Well, if your alignment is >=0, Fedspace is safe,
*but* only if you have <=100 fighters and your exp is under 1000.
If you're just starting out, you should always try and camp overnight in FedSpace. Also, there can only be 5 ships per sector in FedSpace, so spread out a little -- any sector from 1 to 10 as well as the StarDock count as FedSpace.
If you're evil, or don't have enough turns to get to FedSpace to camp, look for somewhere off the beaten path. A sector with only 1 or 2 ways in is *much* better than a sector with 6 warps when you're trying to lie low.
Also, if you can't make it to Fedspace with your remaining turns, don't try to. The *worst* spot, IMHO, is right outside of FedSpace, because anyone that comes online after you will almost definitely run into you.
Anyone else have some good hints? Let's see them here!

1- always leave your ship on fed space when you disconnect
2- dont have more than 100 figs if you do the above. if you dont you will be towed out after a few hours
3- dont have more than 1000 experience if you want to do #1
4- have plenty of shields
5- if you balance your fight power right during a battle you can capture instead of destroy a ship
6- you can sell your pod for some decent money and get a scout(i can assure you, i was blown twice already)
7- corps must be either all-good or all-evil members
