I'm having problems with Swath Put an end to popups!

When I try port pair trading everything goes fine one round. When the cycle should reoeat Swath just displays the sector of the other port and stalls. The only key that works here is 'escape' which aborts the script. This may be a feature where the script awaits a user response to continue trading. I've tried all the keys but nothing happens. Please someone, help me out!

I have the evaluation version and just saw in 'readme.txt' that it only runs 100 first lines of the script. So I should register Swath.. is it worth $26?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

If it's $15, I'd buy it. $26 is a little bit steep for something I don't use often.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I use 1.3.2 and have had plenty of trouble port trading. It works occassionally, and is fun when it does work, but it periodically conks out on the sector number - as if it forgot to press the "enter" key.

I have other troubles with it. Mainly the program doesn't build an offline database, requiring one to be connected to a game server all the time when doing zero-turn mapping. Sure, it doesn't take up any turns, but it takes up a lot of time because the algorithm it uses is so slow. Blah!

nevertheless, I haven't found a good, free, assistant that can do what swath does half as well. Any suggestions?

What do you know? It stops mapping altogether now. Crashes every time when I want it to map.

Bad news: The mapping function starts working again after I complained bitterly about it

Worse news: The mapping algorithm is intolerably slow. It looks like an O(N2) function. I haven't got 500 sectors explored yet and it's taking more than 30 minutes.

Here is a swath question for everyone -- if I register, does it stop
spamming the daily log with "user so and so is using swath v1.3.2"?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I too have questions. What is the purpose of Swath (I know its used during trading...but to what end)? And what advantages does it have vice just going into the game and playing without it? Oh, one last question - Does it work with Windows 2000?

I tried Swath out and tried the mapping, but where do you see the map? It seems like I just spent 20 minutes for nothing!

You don't actually get to see a map.

After the mapping you could use it to retrieve info such as trade port pairs.

If you want to see a real map you have to do it by hand. BTW, after each time you made exploration you have to do the CIM Download and then the mapping to update.

I only could get more port pairs when I had actually explored the sectors. Which makes sense.

I have been making some hand maps, it's a mondo pain in the ass though!

Actually i quite like drawing maps. It's much easier to visualize than all those abstract sector numbers. You shouldn't try to draw a complete map though. You'll run out of room pretty fast that way, just divide them into particular sectors.

Would anyone be interested in a program that would display the map in a "2d" view using OpenGL? If so, I might be able to put something together (and get some use from that CS degree of mine)...

The data structure would be simple, and the HTML code could be simple, but I would need to figure out a way to display fonts so that you could tell sectors. And there are a few other things...

Anyway, if enough folks are interested, I might take a shot at this.

I don't think it's worth it, Burbel. It has already been done. E.g. helper program Attac has the feature. It only shows one level in unregistered version though.

Exactly my experience as well. I can't see any apparent reason why this works in some cases and not in another.

OTOH, I suggest you to start writing the mapper. Maybe we could eventually put together an open-source helper program. Wouldn't that be something?

Okay Polo, I'm done sulking.

From the SWATH help files:

quote:

The following is needed to be able to use and develop User Defined Scripts:
SWATH v1.3 or later.
Sun's Java 2 Software Development Kit (SDK) v1.2 or later.
Download FREE from here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/

If you have it installed, is the path to it defined properly in "c:\windows\swath.ini"?
On my system it was set up as C:\jdk1.3\ when the actual path was C:\jdk1.3.2_02\ or something like that.

Whenever I started SWATH, I was getting an error about it not being able to find some Java files. After fixing the path problem, I didn't get the JAVA error anymore and the pair trading script ran flawlessly (quickly too).

Spekter, thanks for the info. I just want to be sure, do you really mean that I should download this 30Mb software:

"Download Java 2 SDK, v 1.3.0_02 Software for Windows 95 / 98 / 2000 / NT / ME 4.0 (Intel Platform)

One large bundle (~30MB)"

Btw, I'm glad that you aren't anrgy with me anymore.
