A New Scenario (Series) Awaits Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

A Mining Outpost that was established by a mining team.

Professor Jean Krig ascends to the second layer of the Earth.

John Trevins, an expert miner, has found his boat.

This is actually Part I of a science fiction scenario series I'm going to gradually come out with (and I've only finished Part I ). The series is called the "Amazing Discovery" series, and Part I is called "The Underground Journey" (may be renamed to "The Journey Within") which is not to be confused with "Journey To The Center Of The Earth."

quote:
@SCENARIO
@width=500
@title=%STRING0
^^Length: %STRING1 to %STRING2
^
^^JOURNEY TO THE UNDERGROUND
^^Part I to the "Amazing Discovery" Series
^
^In 1856, the world is bound by governments and imperialism. There are not many wars going on at this time.
^One French scientist, Professor Jean Krig, has taken this period of time in history to his advantage.
^Professor Krig has decided to travel to the area of Iceland. There, he has decided to take the most magnificent of journies.
^Professor Krig and a team of miners will embark underground. Professor Krig hopes to obtain many treasures
^and finally get to the center of the Earth, where it is rumored from found letters that a civilization awaits Jean...
^
^The mining team is ready, but some are not equipped. As the journey progresses, outposts, roads, bases will
^be constructed, and new mining teams "armed" (built) with tools to mine treasures out of the ground and get to
^the center of the Earth.
^
^BASES: Cities, OUTPOSTS: Airbases, ROADS: Roads, MINERS: Settlers (w/attack)
^
^This is Part I to the "Amazing Discovery" Series of Civilization II scenarios. The scenario will end keeping you hanging.
^
^PLEASE NOTE
^Government changes are not allowed.
^There is no actual conquest in this scenario.
^The two "none" civilizations are not to be played.
^Victory is achieved when you reach the unknown at the center...
^It is actually very difficult to win this scenario...

@end -- this line must be here!

Part II will be a continuation of this, but in a very different atmosphere.

I still have some playtesting to do myself, and a few touch ups, and then it is done.

I actually began this scenario about a month after I started posting here, and dropped it for my "Battle of Gettysburg" scenario and later on, "The Rebellion of Nat Turner" was added, so I decided to finish it up.

The "Amazing Discovery" series will be very sci-fi-ish.

And yes, the atmosphere is very "Journey To The Center Of The Earth"-ish with Iceland, but that's about all that's in common.

By the way, compare the unit that is "Professor Krig" (Professor Jean Krig) to the first image of my rotating avatar.

This weekend if I can get the proper playtesting finished (I'd aim for a Saturday release, or to make things fancy, a Memorial Day release ).

Does this mean its a ToT scenario by any chance?
Nice job in any case, and an excellent theme from which to start!

Btw, are any of those graphics from the FW X-com scenario?

Is there any interest in this at all? If not, I could spend this weekend on The Mars Project and try to get some units in for it and finish this later. What does everyone else think?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Finish The Mars Project first. I've been waiting a long-ass time for that one.

Increase Your PM Length

Quite tempting. I could probably finish up all of my terrain files (I think it comes to about 10 or so...), and the 5 things of rules, along with some units this weekend if I really wanted to... hmmm...

DO IT! Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I like this idea very much. The civ2 scenario-builder is infinitely malleable. I think that scenario designers have only scratched the surface of what can be done. Wars and campaigns are fun, but other topics beckon. The Jules Verne scenario (yes, its one of my favorites) demonstrated early on just how flexible the scenario builder can be. By all means, Polaris, finish this.

I would like to see a 20,000 Leagues scenario too.

Salutations,
Exile

Yeah, right. Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

And it's hardly Journey to the Center of the Earth either.

It doesn't matter. The idea looks great! I say GO FOR IT!

I'd like to see a classic scenario covering H.G. Wells' War of the World's, just like it was done in the book. Possibly even adding in many implements of Jeff Wayne's version. The possibilites and fun for such a scenario would be next to endless. Though I lack the artistic abilities to do such a scenario...

Anyhoo, finish TMP first so we can all playtest that while you work on this one.

Wouldn't that be incredibly one sided? Victorian era weapons were useless against the Martian war machines. All the Humans could do is hold out untill the tech "Devine Intervention" wipes out the Martians!

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

In the original book, and, moreover in Jeff Wayne's game, the Martians were matched failry equally. The Martians had superior units, but the Humans had massive numbers, which pretty much stalemated the game while each raced to beat the other. Martians sought to get more troops to Earth via the projectiles and the Humans raced to develop fantastic weaponry.

You must be thinking of the 1952 movie with Gene Barry and Ann Robinson.

Can you tell i'm a fan of the story or what.
