HELP with embassies Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

I can't establish embassies.
I'm playing CTP II for the first time, since I can't wait till X-mas
for CIV III.
Right know, it would be really important to establsih an embassy-
so I put a diplomat on a longship, carry him to my enemy and try to move him into a city. But, it doesn't work !!!
So, do I need to have a cease-fire while establishing an embassy ?

Suffering from ads?

You can not establish an embassy with a civilisation that you are currently at war with. So, yes a cease-fire would be a good start....

In CTP2 it work a little bit different. On your cobtrol panel there is have order list. One of these buttons has a establish embassy icon. Klick on this button if you have selected a diplomat near a AI city and klick on this city. Note if you select a different unit than the diplomat than the button won't be in the box.

By the way diplomats aren't so powerfull as in Civ2. I bougt there most cities of my opponents. This concept will appear later in a CTP2, and isn't so successful as inCiv2.

So how can I get my enemies to sign the cease-fire ?
I offered it a few times, even with 2000 gold, however they always decline...

My suggestion is to conquer one of their nice big cities, then they should think "ah damn, we're going to die" and beg for peace.

Trial and Error Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

You could threat the AI with war, although you are alreydy on war with them. It's a trial but it could work.

since we're talking about diplomatic options from embassies, may i ask what good is a trade pact or research pact? i don't see any marked difference in my research rate or trade. and the AI doesn't honour milkitary pacts...

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

The AI is too dumb for me to be bother with pacts. And they don't gang up, so don't worry about military packs.

Just enslave the AI civs as this gives you there research abilities anyway.
