Post Count Democratization Movement Suffering from ads?

The last attempt to start the Movement had a short run but then faded away, so it must be started again!

Apolyton has one of the most heirarchial boards anywhere on the Internet! Let's take a look at some of the problems with the situation. Feel free to add more if you want, and also let's here what you say with the poll!

Spamming to run up post counts
-Mass bannings as a result
-Waste of forum bandwidth resources
-Waste of user's time

Stratification of forum society
-Possibly deters newcomers
-Encourages newcomers to spam
-Requires additional forum rules like no emperor-only threads, etc

Titles
-Eurocentric (Anglocentric?)
-Male only
-Anti-democratic

Top 20 List
-Encourages more spamming (See #1)
-Focuses people on OT forum instead of actual civ forums

The answer?
the PCDM- make everyone a citizen. Equal rights for all! I don't consider some of those "Deitys" to be deserving of their title, and I'll bet a good chunk of the forum doesn't either.

...who will get PCRs and learn that the two aspects (titles and bannings) work together to form a stable board where people with higher status are to be admired and aspired to. an example of how commitment and long-standing posting can reap rewards (I do not include certain OT posters in that statement, I meant predominantly the actual Civ boards. That is why the decision to cut the OT post-count was good. )
I would like to see the OT have a separate post-count, maybe even be an Apolyton hosted site. (ACOL isnt really a SMAC site anymore is it?) Then the OT count would count, but only "over there." In the Apolyton CS boards, there would be a realistic count for how much you post about Civ.

quote:

-Requires additional forum rules like no emperor-only threads, etc

Oh no!

quote:

-Eurocentric (Anglocentric?)

How would you work a "Shah", "Tsar" or "President"?
If you included them with "king" or "prince" titles, then you'd have to make then above or below each other, then you'd have complaints that "Tsar should by rights be above king " etc. You need (if you're going to have at all) a single heirachy. The Euro-centric one is good, as it is the best-know feudal system. I'm sure they could implement an Indian caste-style heirarchy, but who'd understand ?
quote:

-Male only

Cheiftain and Warlord and Deity are sexless, and there are both Princesses and Queens at Apolyton. The fact that there are very few females here anyway means that it isn't a big issue, ladies can ask Mark to give them a female title
quote:

-Anti-democratic

So is Communism, which is the result of making everyone "citizen".
A democratic board would be "President" (10000+), "Senator" (3000+), "Consul" (1000+), "Tribune" (300+), "voter" ( < 300)

quote:

Top 20 List
-Encourages more spamming (See #1)
-Focuses people on OT forum instead of actual civ forums

Even without the post count in the OT forums?
If people have actually come here for Civ, then the OT will only appeal after they've been here for a while, and got a few posts anyway.

Deities are:
Imram S
Mao
Ming

Ming has been a damn good moderator for a long time, and certainly deserves his title. Imram I have not seen spam for at least as long as I've posted here, and I lurked for longer.
Mao I believe used to spam, but hardly ever posts anymore, and never flaunts his deity status. (I think) When AH gets to Deity, I may reverse my decision , but he too has posted long and hard, humorously, trollingly (also humorous) and even in serious debates to get to the post count he has today, and I think that anyone who has made the effort, even if a large proportion of the posts were:
quote:

deserves the title, just to show how little life they have in the real world.
Maybe a postcount/time registered would give a suitable figure, so the quicker you post, the more likely you are to be a spammer, and so the titles become a measure of spam, rather than posts.

I think the democratisation of post-counts would be nice, but the present system (at least on-topic) works fine.

Also, when the Post Count addition feature was taken away from the OT, I dedided that I would not visit the OT as often.

Doesn't just prove the point that post counts have an effect on forum behavior, which is not exactly what we want here? So long as there are post counts and people want to post to boost their count, forumming won't be going about as naturally as possible.

Why does it matter if someone wants to boost their post counts. There are adequate anti-spamming measures and punishments in place, and the balance on Apolyton was pretty good! Post-count democratisation pah!

Get over it. The posts in the OT don't count anymore so where is this massive spamming comming from. I can't talk for the rest of the forums, but in the AC forums no one that I have seen spams to increase their post count. Posts are always on topic. You civers may have a problem with spam, but not us SMACers.

Well I'll re-iterate my proposal: why not just get rid of post counts all-toghether? Then there's no need for mods battling post-count related spam. (not all spam is because of post counts)

And Mark and Dan would no longer have to stand all the whining related to this topic.

The title system is just a little fun. And encourages people to stay loyal to and visit Apolyton. It also fits in well with the Civ theme. Lighten up!

BTW, the sex of you title is changed on request, so that point is technically incorrect.

Lots of your points are just PC nonsense.

Hey I don't care whether the mods and the site owners are cruel tyrants or not and I certainly don't mind the titles. (I'm emperor after all)

I just find that killing post counts would have practical advantages: no more post counts related to spamming, or rules fighting that (the less rules the better) and no more whining about post counts cuts or whatever.
