Judging from the radar array on the alleged cruiser and the armament on the alleged Aegis cruiser, the labels should be switched.

Good work, Snapcase. A belated happy birthday to you.

A shame you could not track down any of the aircraft images, it would be nice to see if the Americans and Russians are the only ones with special air power.

Still not sold on the idea of civ-specific units (sniff).

I do have a guess for your 'no clue'-unit: doesn't it look suspiciously like a Gladiator unit?
Or maybe the Roman special unit?

It's a M2/3 Bradley IFV

IFV = Infantry Fighting Vehicle = Mechanized Infantry

I would actually put a monetary bet that its the Mech Inf. assuming Firaxis is calling such units the same Civ2 names in Civ3

We know it isn't a roman legion, as that unit has been shown in the resource sideshow at the official site. I guess it might be a non Roman Legion. That the civs that can't build the roman Legion have.

The next to last unit is the Bradley, on that I agree.

The last unit, the one below the abrams, titled "again, a tank. You tank historitans..." It is a French tank, of WWI manufatrure called the Renault FT-17, which acutally saw service during both World Wars.

I'm doing an updated version with more of the new units (some of which have only appeared in other screenshots), should be done soon.

When I first saw this picture, I too thought it was an FT-17, however now that I'm looking at a picture/drawing of this tank, I now belive it is a M-4 Sherman.
Ref: TANK A history of the Armoured Fighting Vehicle, Pub. by Scribners. There is a side drawing (page 38) of the Renault M-17 and it has a very large front sprocket and a smaller rear drive sprocket making the track look like a triangle.
Ref: Military Hardware of World War II, Military Book Club (they have a web site.) Page 188 a front photo of a Renault FT. No way is the game unit and this picture the same.
Ref: M-4 Sherman pub by Blandford Press, London-New York-Sydney. Almost any page in the book. If you look at the game unit, you can see the vertical volute suspension system that made the Sherman famous. Also the white band around the turret. I now remember that I have see picture of the Sherman painted this way.
A side note to the person that was inquiring about the Mr. Christle's tank design of the T-4. If you could see the picture on page 17, you would understand how this tank may have become the Russian T-34.

Yep, I used to play PG a fair old bit, but it seems unlikely that every civ is going to have a tank as a special unit. We know the germans have the Panzer, the Americans the Abrams, will the Russians have a T-34 perhaps or the French it's own tank. Perhaps this may be a generic tank; the first type you can acquire from Mobile Warfare. Perhaps Panzers and Abrams become available to the appropriate civs at later dates.

Yeah, I definitely reckon the latter one is an APC, so would represent the Mech. Inf unit.

Nice one, mate

I dare say the biplane is a generic unit for all civs. Perhaps we will have three or four stages in the development of flight this time round:

flight (bi-plane) ==> advanced flight (WWII fighters + bombers) ==> jet propulsion (jets etc.) ==> stealth(stealth fighter/bomber)....

still, who knows?

Actually looking at http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filter...4261-29,00.html

One of the bases (the Aztec one: Ecatepec), is producing a spearmen unit, as is St Louis, so this would suggest that the unit thought to be a spearman is indeed a spearman

Also notice in the plan of the city radius in the lower-right hand area, there is also an artillery unit of some description which is 'unloaded'...this also brings up some interesting ideas, do you have to load and unload artillery which are like this before they can be fired? You have to do this on AoE2 with trebuchets and on PG with some of the unmounted artillery which are towed...

I already mentioned this unit whit my plane sighting, although I can´t really say if it is an "unloaded" artillery, an "unloaded" German 88mm FLAK (can also be used as an artillery) or a French Cannon (special unit?) like the 1 introduced in RED ALERT 2. (a very powerfull unit BTW)

In my book about the Sherman tank I'm looking at page 44 Showing a picture of the M-4A1 and it has a round turret. the early Sherman with a 75 MM gun had a round turret so to speak. When the Army installed the 76 MM gun in later tanks they had to build a bulge at the rear of the turret. The 76 MM gun was longer than the 75 MM gun.
http://militarybookclub.com is the site. One of the book I was using is called Military Hardware of World War II, pub by military book club. If you go to their site, they may still have it for orders. It has one picture of a Renault FT on page 188.

I just watch the 3 min. video, and it shows the tank in question with a large picture. It is the Sherman for sure. The video shows the 3 part transmission cover that was on the early Sherman. The Sherman later had a solid cast cover, however the early Sherman had the 3 covers.
