a note from Orson Scott Card Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

I was reading the novel: Pastwatch: the redemption of Christopher Columbus.
it has the following remark in the acknowledgements:

quote:
a complaint to Sid Meier, for the game Civilization, which seriously interfered with my ability to concentrate on productive labor (but I reccomend it to those who want to have the experience of altering history for themselves).

I think it's cool...

Ha Ha! So Civ has also affected those people with responsibility! I thought it was just us Apolytoners.

I think it's fair to say that anyone who finds Civ the slightest bit interesting soon finds it totally addictive ...

Put an end to popups!

Orson Scott Card is probably one of the best Sci-fi/fantasy writers i know
he wrote the triologie:
"Ender's Game","Xenocide"&"speaker for the dead"
those really are worth reading
If you never have read something of him you really should read these, there the best.

Don't forget the capper on the Ender Wiggin series - "Children Of The Mind"
as well as the parallell novels "Ender's Shadow" and "Shadow Of The Hegemon"

I'm not sure what is more amazing, that a Writer can take time to play Civilization, or that I can take time from my civ playing to read a Card novel.

I've got an excuse- my wife was on the computer, and I was taking a break from reading some civ related files.

I'll agree to that! I just recently introduced my cousin to the game (CivII), and now he's hooked. He even said that he come somebody else addicted to the game. It's like a virus... but a good one.

Joe.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

In "The Worthing Saga" by Orson Scott Card, there's a section that deals with a futuristic game in which players take control of the governments of virtual nations. The "people" in these nations react to many different social, political, and economic factors, and in addition to internal policies, the player has to worry about other nations' aggressions and how to counter them. Just saying, is all.

Oh yes, as in the rise and fall of Ruber's Italy. or whatever that guys name was. That game is what I picture civ being like in about 20 years.

Full PM-box? Change here!

(maybe little offtopic, but what the ...)
If anyone wants to know how to rule or live in an Galactic empire try reading the Dune Saga's of Frank Herbert.(if they don't knock you of your feet i don't know)
Just something in between over an other superb Author(i would even say better than Card,IMHO)

shade
A world with no human player and 3 AI would probably look like "1984" from George Orwell
