New to TOT Tired of ads?

I just picked up TOT. I could have grabbed the basic first release version of CivII or TOT for the same price, five bucks (heh). I took TOT figuring that it was the later and thus more advanced version. I think I was mistaken.

I used to have CIVII for my playstation, and either they seriously upgraded graphics and sound for the console version (which seems wrong) or they seriously downgraded them for TOT. TOT seems almost unplayable. I don't even get those nifty animated advisors.

Am I missing something?

ToT is a good game! Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

Pilfur, you're not mistaken. You got a great deal! Gameplay-wise, ToT is still Civ2. If you play the original game, you'll get the same basic experience you would for "regular" Civ2. In addition, you can play the extended original version (keep going after you get to Alpha Centauri), the fantasy version, and the sci-fi version (both of which are basically just fancy scenarios). You're right that the graphics are completely different, but I think it just takes some getting used to. Personally, I prefer the ToT graphics to the ones in Civ2 MGE, but that's just me. I like the unit animations in ToT, and I don't miss the high council or the wonder movies. Give it a chance, I think you'll like it.

Get a bigger avatar today!

atleast in the oringinal you had a wealth of cool scenarios (WW2 and rome, PLUS 2 scenario disks (ok, the fantasy worlds one only had 2 playable decent ones) - but still)

But on the whole i prefer tot. But the mutliplayer is a bit awkward (on hot seat). You are playing nicley, peace treaties every where. You come to your next go and womp! Your allies have just invaded your capital and half youre empire is falling apart - and you was nevcer shown the AI advances or told they had broke the treaites
